Honestly... it aint worth the chance if you ask me.

Now, had I already bought a temp control, I'd definitely assume this guys an idiot.
I'm gonna go with the guy is an idiot just due to the fact that he has two of those " Himalayan salt / air purifying " lamp things in frame behind him.

I don't trust any body trusting pseudo-science to discuss actual science.

And no, I don't use a temp. control device.

Let me repeat myself:
There are even worse things in vaping. Do you know that Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is present in some juices?
It is highly corrosive chemical, its inhaling can be deadly, it has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients, it is used as industrial solvent and coolant, it used in the production of styrofoam, it is used as a fire ......ant, it is widely used by military. More information here:

And back to nickel:
Nickel Exposure - A Deadly Hazard

Although I agree that the guy is an idiot, your misunderstanding of the Himalayan salt lamps kind of takes credibility from your post. It's not pseudo-science, it's holistic medicine. After 5 doctors told me my only option for a problem I was having was a surgery with a less than 10% success rate, my girlfriend talked me into holistic medicine and it worked. Stuff that has had proven benefits over thousands of years instead of the modern take a pill or slice it off mentality. Remember, the medical industry doesn't make money if you are healthy. They make money when they cause more problems that they can "fix." Again and again and again...

Think about that reasoning.

TC can also be operated with Titanium wire - Oh crap another concern.

ya' know, some of you guys make me laugh a bit...

its like this... I watched this video, than immediately think, "hmm... I consider myself part of a community... a community of vapers... as a member, and not an all around, self-centered, ......, maybe I will see if I might be able to help people in this "community" possibly be more safe.

The response?.. a variety of negativity.

I suppose, there would be a valid argument that my use of words like "danger" in the title should have been left out, so as not to create panic... however, I state that, "he may be wrong", and that "metallurgist etc. can chime in." Which, opens the door for criticism of the vid. Although, I guess that choice of wording couldve been misconstrued as sarcasm for the expectation that there was going to be upheaval... at least from those that already had temp control, although, not exclusively.

I feel that yes, ok... I will from now on, choose my words extremely carefully, especially with regard to a "danger!! Vapers will die tomorrow!!" kind of topic.

So I am sincerely sorry... and I apologize.

But remember, the initial urge was PURELY based on wanting to HELP fellow members of the vaping community (not that this is an excuse for inciting riot, and/or the condescention that resulted from poor vernacular choice, or whatever).

Despite further expected responses, I absolutely refuse to have any ill-will towards any contributors to this thread.

I wish you all the best, and happy vaping!! :D

The key problem with your original post was linking to a video that has already been discussed and dissected at length..a simple search puff the forums would show you that there is very little useful info in that video..
No one is saying don't worry, don't become educated about ni wire...just don't use the opinions of a random guy completely uneducated in the material being discussed as your source [emoji14]

Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping

I understand that they are a chunk of salt with a 15 watt bulb wired in them. They look sorta cool, but I'll trust a doctor if I have an issue with my lungs over something sold at a flea market 99.999% of the time.

I'm not a fan of pseudo-science or magical thinking, but if it works for you...

Just watched this interesting video.

...

I posted this in Another Thread regarding this Video...

This is what I Like and Don't like about when Someone wants to Bring Up something for Consideration.

What I like: Considering any Potential Hazards that may exist in using Ni-200?

What I Don't Like: Presenting Concepts with No Supporting Scientific Documentation.

Ron raises some Salient Points. Unfortunately, he does Not Support them with Any Quantitative Numbers. And there is a Fine line between Doing a Public Service Message and Spreading FUD.

The Detection of Metals in a Liquid is Not an overly hard Test to Do. If we want to Talk about the Potential of Nickel Leaching into an e-Liquid (which is a Very Relevant Topic), why Doesn't Ron or Anyone Else expose some e-Liquids of Various pH, Nicotine mg/ml and Flavorings to Ni-200 wire and then send the out for Testing?

I do Not Dispute the Possibility of Nickel leaching into an e-Liquid. But without seeing some Rudimentary Numbers of ug/ml or ppb, can a Meaningful Conclusion be made about Anything?

Reply...

Exactly. He presented the fears but offered no evidence that NI200 will release nickel into the vape at vaping temperature of the coils.

Reply...

And then the Urban Army picks it up and the Next Thing you know is the Huffington Post is running an article with a 36 Point Banner...

"Toxic Nickel is Leaching into Unregulated e-Cigarette Juice"

Like I said, talking about Ni-200's potential risks is a Very Important Topic. It just needs to be Tempered with some Actual, Verifiable Scientific Data.

Else, the conversation degrades into just Fear and Rumors.

and...

BTW - Since Ron stated that he Feels Safety is of Great Concern to the Vaping Community. I wonder if he would like to Publish the Lab Results for Diacetyl and Acetyl Propionyl he did for the e-Liquids he Sells in his Vape Shop?

Penumbra,
I do respect your right to raise a concern and fully understand. As others have stated, old news and invalidated through real science.

I'm glad you took the time to post and hope you follow up with some research on your own to find the information you need to make an informed final decision. I try and do this on a daily basis when questions arise.
I may not always make the mainstream choices, but I make the choices that I feel will work for me. The same respect goes out to you. Choose what you are comfortable with.

The internet is massive with a lot of information, both factual and completely Biased with purpose. We are the ones to filter out the garbage that will adversely effect our lives.

Most people mainly use them because they look neat. Almost no one uses them right. But salt is known to absorb moisture, and other contaminates with it. Heat them and they release the moisture but not the contaminates. But they are only a small part of holistic medicine.

You trust doctors? Let's see, 3 doctors told me smoking was safer than vaping. 5 doctors told me the only way to fix a pinched nerve was a surgery with a 10% success rate, massage wouldn't do it, but a good massage therapist did fix it. Doctors have constantly perscribed me pain killers even though they have tested me and know that my body reacts badly to them. I have lung, kidney, liver and joint problems, not from spinal meningitis, but from the "cure" they used. Their next series of cures was killing me, but a switch to holistic medicine has gotten it all in check and I have been in far better health since. Doctors have just been trained to let big pharma keep making money. They are trained to only superficially treat a problem while planting more potential problems in your body. How many different prescriptions show cancer as a "side effect"? How many of them list all kinds of major illnesses and health problems as side effects? That's pseudo-science, not healing. Doctors prescribe Chantix. Why? Because if your suicide isn't successful you will end up forking over cash to the medical industry for the rest of your life. Doctors are trained to make money for the healthcare industry, that's it. Plain and simple. Heck, 60+ years ago, they were trained to tell you that smoking cigs was good for you. I feel sorry for you if you trust doctors. Even more sorry for your kids...

Hey I thought it was worth posting the video to discuss! He brought up points worth researching the facts since he didn't cite any sources. Others here already have done more research and I don't do nickel coils and wouldn't without doing research. I didn't think anyone had an issue with you posting the video for discussion :)

And back to nickel:
Nickel Exposure - A Deadly Hazard
I minimize the DHMO content of my liquids by not diluting with distilled DHMO and my overall exposure by drinking beer which I firmly believe neutralizes my fear of DHMO
Nickel allergies on the other hand are of course real and I mentioned that on another thread on nickel.

I think it's worth remembering that...

Almost all of the "medicines" that we use came from an herbal background.
And many if not most were "folk medicines" in the past.

Aspirin came from the bark of willow trees.

Having said all that, some things just stretch credibility a bit too far.
Like maybe Himalayan salt lava lamps.

But I could be wrong, and maybe someday we'll find out there's something to it.
