Just got an email from Blu regarding the dangers of using their PCC. They ask that everyone discontinue the use of their PCC because they found a fault that can cause the individual battery charging inside to EXPLODE.

Since other brands also use the identical PCC from the same factory, it might be assumed that these too have this possible fault (Such as the Sidesho and others).

Blu states that the fault is not in the battery, and recommends you charge them with the wall plug or USB charger, just not with the charging pack.

They also claim to have discovered the fault and are producing new, replacement charging packs and will replace them at no charge.

I know Blu and Volcano are 100% identical, and that factory does produce a few different private labels as well as some generically marked units offered direct.

It may or may not also affect brands like SideSho and the upcoming M401 PCC from LiteCig. Even if not built in the same factory, they MIGHT be using the same components that caused this issue.

I just bought a Volcano last week, one would think they would issue the same warning, I have yet to get one.

But, I would forgo disposing of the whole blu pack or dunking it in water or whatever, or recycling it fully.

Hack it, rip out the guts, and make it into SOMETHING.....the shell is worth keeping IMO...take the battery into Office Depot or whatever and put it in their battery recycle box.

But thanks for the heads up though...I have not used the PCC from the used Blu I picked up....

For them to issue the warning, someone or someone plural had to have some PCCs blow up...

I had put in an order for a Blu last week. Thankfully I changed my mind and ordered a VK. However, Blu must not have received my cancel request, because I just received this email from them:

September 29, 2009

DELAY TO BLU PACK AND BLU STARTER KIT ORDERS

Dear blu Customer,

Due to recent product improvements to the blu pack that is sold individually and also included in each blu starter kit, shipment of your order has been delayed. Your order remains in a “Pending” status, however, delivery is expected to be 4-6 weeks from the date of this notice.

Once our new inventory of blu packs and starter kits has been received, your order will be processed immediately. At that time, you will receive an email reflecting a new order status of "Shipped".

If you prefer to cancel your order, please email us at billing@blucigs.com. Please be sure to include your Order # and the word "Cancel" in your email.

Please note that orders exclusively for blu cartridges and/or accessories (atomizers, cigarette batteries, and chargers) are continuing to be shipped on a regular basis, but may experience slight delays.

We apologize for the unforeseen delays and greatly appreciate your patience.

Sincerely,

Jason Healy

I shouldn't be too hard on them, but I must admit that a little honesty goes a long way. "Due to recent product improvements" isn't exactly honest. Personally, I think they could have saved more face by explaining the pack fiasco to their customers waiting for their orders to be processed.

It just says a lot to me about blu...and I don't like it. Am I over-reacting?

Blu Order Cancelled; Refund Issued

Dear blu Customer,

Recently, we received notice from our battery manufacturer of a potential issue involving the overcharging of the battery within the blu pack that is sold individually and also included in each blu starter kit. Although the likelihood of overcharging is minimal, our battery manufacturer is currently redesigning the battery to eliminate this possibility. Unfortunately, inventory of the improved blu packs and starter kits will not be available for 4-6 weeks.

While your recent order was marked “Shipped” and your credit card was charged, your order has not been shipped due to the above stated issue. As such, we have “Cancelled” your order and initiated a credit to your credit card account for the order amount. Depending upon your bank, it may take up to 3 days for the credit to be reflected on your credit card statement.

If you would like to place a new order for the improved blu pack or starter kit, please visit our site at blucigs.com. We continue to accept orders and will process your order immediately following the receipt of our new inventory. Delivery time is estimated at

4-6 weeks from the date the new order is placed.

Please note that orders exclusively for blu cartridges and/or accessories (atomizers, cigarette batteries, and charges) are continuing to be shipped on a regular basis, but may experience slight delays.

We apologize for the inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience.

Sincerely,

Jason Healy

apparently, Volcano is kinda saying blu is FOS...they claim they had many calls and emails....so they checked with their supplier(blus supplier as well) and the supplier told them they have no idea of any issue with the case.....

so, either blu is not being honest, or volcano isn't. I'd guess the former, as it kinda seems to me an "excuse" to buy more time to fill orders..seems like an order it as we sell it operation......perhaps they are having financial issues, IDK...

Surely this could also impact sales, in the way people might think "Hey, if their PCC's can make my batteries explode, I wonder what could happen if I use some of their other products"?

I could see this being a ploy by Blu to buy more time to ship existing orders, but it makes no sense in light of the fact that I got my order two months ago, and still got an email from them today telling me to properly dispose of my PCC and that I'd be receiving a new one in 4 to 6 weeks.

I would trust that they do in fact have info leading them to believe there might be a fire hazard with the PCC's internal battery. So any of us who use the thing should heed the warning.

Exactly... hardly a money making ploy when they're shipping out what MIGHT be thousands of free PCC's to customers at their own cost. Shipping alone is gonna put the hurting on them.

In that case, they'll be sending me two of them. I purchased one with the kit and another later with spare batteries and atomizers.

Why wouldn't they want customers to send them back to them directly for safety reasons and also as a record for who they need to send replacement(s) to?

This recall is not going to make them money and I doubt a ploy to delay current orders. Wish we knew how many people have had problems with the charger pack. Also, since some haven't received the email from them, how many are still using it?

Away..
I purchased my Blu as my 1st e cig. I liked the PCC. Lasted all day.
I bought mine in June before the "improved" version and received no email.
Maybe mine doesnt explode big enough? I still have it though........
The wall pack was the only thing the charging lights worked correctly on.
Mine blinked all the time after it dropped from solid red......pulses all diff of red...then blue. Even the USB did the same thing.
It always charged well and once you figured it out all was ok. Thats when they got it all confiscated and had that 4-6 week delay.
Then came the new rubberized model PCC. It must be that one.
I still have the email describing how the LED's are to change for each unit.....
Something in " They do not work that way " just wouldnt sink in even in the replied email...lol
They had me talk to 3 diff people, try many things....even sent me new batteries.
Blink blink blink.....did anyones USB ever turn green?

To expect a malfunctioning device to be returned will put the carrier in a hazardous position. This is a liability that is not adequately addressed.
Lithium ion batteries that malfunction can bring down an airplane, cause fires that incinerate vehicles. Cause fires that burn down buildings, ect..
The fact that they acknowledged a problem, and consequently leave out the "please return...." is an indication that the thing is hazardous.

If you don't believe, search on "lithium ion battery fire" amd educate yourself as to the potential.
