Hi. Does anyone know if smoking plus vaping is worse than smoking alone? I heard how VG can sort of coat your lungs and I'm wondering if I'm keeping more cigarette chemicals and stuff lodged in my lungs than smoking cigarettes alone.

If you're going to ask why I don't try to quit, I did quit, but I have ulcerative colitis and had a nasty flare up after I switched to vaping. So I still smoke a few cigs a day to keep things at bay.

Thanks

I still can't wrap my head around the: "I still smoke/I'm a dual user, because of health reasons. Seriously, most quit because smoking was the darn reason we had bad health issues. I don't see how smoking would " help" if you have health issues.
I am not sure of daleron has similar issues as me, but smoking cigarettes is a godsend if you have UC.

I'm sure it will be a godsend if you have UC, but considering the fact all 4000 chemicals in tobacco will do you more harm than vaping, there should be alternatives.

And that's where vaping come in place.

According to this article (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2014383/) nicotine is curing or partly curing the symptoms of UC. Thus, if you only vape and keep the nicotine(not lowering to 0mg, heck, perhaps even going to 18mg if it helps reducing symptoms), you shouldn't smoke just because it's helping you.

I hope you understand what I'm saying. English isn't my native language.

I would also like to add the fact that some chemicals in tobacco help improve the nicotine absorption rate of the body. I'm not sure what they are called. When I was a smoker, I could feel the nicotine getting his work done right after the first hit I took. When I vape, it takes a little longer.

That's why I also stated it might be good to increase the nicotine level of your Liquids, just because your body will have more chance of absorbing the nicotine.

I'm not sure if there are any studies about how much nicotine the body actually absorbs when you vape, but I can assume it's only a small percentage of how much nicotine is actually in a ML of eliquid.

It's largely believed it's other parts of cigarettes that are what make tobacco smoke so effective at treating UC possibly combined with nicotine. Even it's been suggested low doses of carbon monoxide work as anti-inflammatory agents, smoking suppresses the immune system etc.

Vaping by itself wasn't effective for me. I quit smoking and within 3 weeks had a bad flare up after going through around 2 ml a day of 18 mg eliquid.

Welcome to ECF! Just stop smoking all together. Vaping is simply more enjoyable. Ulcerative colitis' symptoms are often intermittent and most likely unrelated to your vaping as the vapor doesn't go through you digestive track. Interestingly, there is substantial evidences that nicotine improve Ulcerative colitis' symptoms (Transdermal Nicotine for Mildly to Moderately Active Ulcerative Colitis: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial | Annals of Internal Medicine or Nicotine treatment for ulcerative colitis - Guslandi - 2001 - British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology - Wiley Online Library). In line with Rickw57 above, I speculate therefore that your flare may be caused by smoking cessation rather than vaping. Try to increase your nicotine levels and you maybe just fine. Stop smoking and Vape on safely!
