Well, 2nd post. First was 4 days in without analogs and things were going well. Day 5 the cravings came back; not horrible, just nagging. Day 6 increased nic level and literally vaped myself sick. So here I am at day 7, started ok, then came the nagging again. Then comes the :brilliant: idea, put the final nail in the coffin, just smoke the d*mn cig and put it to rest- its going to be awful and you'll finally be content with the decision to quit. (After only a couple a day for 6 wks prior to now the majority of them were pretty yucky so I KNEW this one would be after a week without ANY!) WRONG! As much as I wanted it to be the worst thing EVER, it wasnt. It was like any of them I had when I was still at over a PAD. WHY do we do these things??!!! My advice to anyone who has this kind of moronic idea such as myself is do NOT do it! But my question is; when the heck will these annoying cravings stop?????

Truthfully, never. When i see someone smoking I still get that feeling like i want one. It's completely illogical, but I still get it. I'm almost 2 years in. Just don't beat yourself up about it. When i started I still smoked that first one in the morning for about 2 weeks. The thing to remember is that you have cut back dramatically on your cigarette intake. Soon the cravings will lessen and you just won't want to. They will be there, just not as strong. You're doing a great thing for yourself and if you slip a little it's not the end of the world.

Congratulations on the step you've made

Don't worry about smoking that cigarette, just keep on vaping. The urges will stop when you find a liquid that satisfies you and tastes better than the cigarettes ever did. At least for me that was true. Cigarettes have more than just nicotine that's additive studies have shown, that's why your liquid is not satisfying you, so you have to get past the addiction. Or you can try naturally extracted tobaccos:
Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux | E-Cigarette Forum
That's what worked for me, and almost a year now since I've smoked, and no more cravings for a cigarette The NETs satisfy the urge for me, without the tar from the combustion of a cigarette I'm starting to vape non-NETs now as well. You might also consider picking up a Vuse at a local store/service station, that has high nic (4.8%, 48 mg) and gives little but strong puffs, that can be a backup when you are tempted, just take a toot. Taste isn't good, but it will satisfy a strong urge.

I get my NETs mostly from:
www.Naturally-Extracted-Tobacco.com, e-liquids for electronic cigarettes
I doubt anyone was addicted more to cigarettes than me, and the NETs got me off them for good. I wish you luck and happy vaping!

Even after 2 years, I still crave that freshly lit cigarette. I enjoyed smoking. I just didn't like what it was doing to me (you know, hacking up a lung first thing in the morning, wheezing at night when you're trying to sleep, etc. etc. etc.).

Hang in there Flo it does get easier.

I'm 8 months in and I get the occasional craving for a smoke. I've dropped my nic level to almost zero so I know it's not the chemical craving. In my case I think it's some subliminal trigger, something I've gotten in my head that in the past I've reached for a cig. I will still on occasion reach for my shirt or pants pocket where I used to carry a pack. Realizing I vape now is easier as each day went by. I guess I'm lucky because when I've "quit" before I've said to myself "one won't hurt, and it will taste bad", but they haven't and it has and I went right back to the smoke eventually. This time When I put them down I didn't let curiosity get me.

Right now you've lost one smoke, but how many have you not smoked in the past week? While vaping yourself sick (been there done that) to hopefully get past the craving might work some of the time, I've found moving, getting up and doing something has worked for me quite a bit. It's like I just didn't change my smoking habits, I changed my lifestyle so I needed something different. Instead of worrying about the craving, laugh at them, relax and vape, because you know you will win.

It's not easy to quit. But you've gone a week with "great" results, showing you're on the right path. For people quitting/switching to vape, that one cig is not uncommon. Instead of looking at this "bump in the road", think back at how great the week has been without the stinkys in your life. It won't be long till you'll be in here saying "one month." You CAN do it!

They may or may not stop, Flo, but you're on the right track. And don't sweat it. Count the one's you DON'T smoke, and keep on keeping on.

As mentioned, NETs may help. Finding the right nic level and flavors you like are also important.

And you seem to have the most important part - the desire to make the switch. For some, it's like a light switch. For may, it's more of a process. Remember, you're making a huge change in your lifestyle, so it won't necessarily be an over-night thing!

don't beat yourself up.

after 3 decades of smoking my lungs are so whatever I couldn't enjoy a good cig if I tried but i'd still smoke anyway if it were not for vape.
if my lungs weren't so bad, maybe i'd still smoke 1 cig in the morning with a cup of coffee, and 1 at night before bed, and vape the rest of the day.
2 cigs a day is a world away from 2packaday

sooner or later, you will probably find a vape combination you're so satisfied with, you just never reach for the cigs anymore.

In away I am lucky, my cravings lasted about 8-12 weeks and as each week passed they were less frequent and less sever. I had smoked for 55+ years and could see the writing on the wall, quit or die this was confirmed many time by my doctor. My wife still smokes and at first the smoke did not bother me now after 8 months I cannot stand the smell. It burns my eyes if I am near it so I just move to a different part of the house. Her smoke reminds me on a daily basis what I have the good fortune not to be inhaling anymore.

never.... your brain has had a taste of nicotine... its a matter of transitioning from one delivery method to another.... getting over the old habits and developing new ones with a similarity to the previous. Vaping works give it time.... kinda like becoming a vegan in 1 day after a lifetime of eating meat.... your gonna want that hamburger eventually ;)

I guess I'm a bit different. I smoked cigs for about 7 or 8 years and when I got my first vape it quickly became a hobby. Within 2 weeks I completely quit smoking cigs and I haven't had one since. I don't really crave cigs anymore but I do crave nicotine so I keep a vape around me at all times along with some spare batteries/eliquid.

The first week for me was friggin hard. I wanted a cig so bad I just wanted to punch something. So I had one after about 4 days of no smoking. Same thing next week but after that last cig I just thought to myself. These things are gross and they are killing me. I'm done with them. Boom it worked for me.

I hope you keep trying and I hope you succeed at quitting those cigs. It's not easy I know the struggle but DON'T GIVE UP.

Welcome Flo :)

Each of us is different. Some are able to walk away from cigarettes the moment they pick up a vape. Others of us have to "transition" to full-time vaping. My moment of "clarity" was the concept of the money I'd spent on vaping stuff that I couldn't "justify" buying any more cigarettes - so I didn't. Bought a pack on a Friday, smoked the last one on that following Monday and haven't had one since.

I've thought about having one, but now (18 months later) I've come so far that I'm not willing to digress. So, I pick up my vape and make a cloud :)

Hang in there - we're here to help, if you need....

I would not say never. I have been away from tobacco over 4 years and have absolutely zero desire. Did not digress either, when I put the last cig out, that was the end of it. I smoked American Spirit Blue when I quit but started out with Camel non filter for the first decade, then went to Reds until AS came about, 40+ years total. I mentioned the tobacco used to signify the strength of tobacco used, you can say I was a heavy user!

That said, it is a very individual battle and the results will vary from person to person, some, as stated never lose the urge while others like myself, dropped it like a hot potato.:)

See, this is why ECF is the one and only forum I've ever bothered creating an account on- YOU GUYS FRIGGIN ROCK! Any time ANYONE ever needs help, suggestions, info and best of all, support theres an overwhelming outreach and response. So thank you to all of you for that. And hopefully the tiny bit of clarity that is coming into mind just keeps growing from todays experience being yeah, the cig was good, but it wasnt great, and it wasnt any better than my vape, different but not any better. Up till now the nagging was telling me that there was something there that was somehow worlds better, but realistically it wasnt. So hopefully I have at least satisfied the curiousity and while I may not have been disgusted by it, I may have at least realized if its no better I can move on from them knowing they are definately way worse (for me) :) (although I hope I do get to that point where I cant stand the smell of them)

First off... a "feeling" is not the same as a craving. A *craving* will make you cry, put you on the floor with NEED... feelings are easily dismissed; just do something different, distract yourself.

There is also WTA -- if the CRAVING persists, then WTA is where you go, not cigarettes. Your brain will keep you addicted to cigarettes just as long as you allow it to do so.

And also... the CRAVING does go away. For me, it required WTA to make them go away, but go away they did, and have not returned. Thoughts and feelings may never go away, they may always recur in times of stress -- but you don't have to listen to them; distract yourself! If distraction doesn't help, then it's a craving, and WTA is called for.

I highly recommend Wholecig; their WTA is far less expensive than Aroma's, and is every bit as pure, clear, and effective. I started off using it as 10% of my vape, in everything I vaped; I'm now down to 2.2% -- and still without cravings -- since I started reducing it in January.
