It would be more like there's the ten dollar wal-mart watch, and my $50 (insert department store here) watch.
Until we get gold plate diamond studded manual buttons, there will be no rolex.
Actually, the $10/ rolex comparison is more accurate, look a the price of a stainless steel rolex sometime...
The Solid gold, diamond studded versions would no doubt follow, but I'm talking about something that right now would require more than $1000 worth of materials and components on a one-off basis (obviously cheaper in production quantities)
But like I said, this would be the ultra-high end market.
And it wouldn't be buying one once a year, it'd be more like buying one, and having the $100 service once a year to tune up everything, install the new firmware, and replace any worn parts.
For the thing to function properly it'd have a lot more processing power than my first 3 or 4 computers did (combined) and fully regulated circuitry. You'd know it was time to charge the battery when it stopped producing vapor at all, and up 'till that moment, it's vapor production would have been the same from the first puff. (the draw would also stay constant) So, you'd unscrew the end, drop in a freshly charged battery, and start to puff away, with exactly the same amount of vapor and ease of draw as you had on the last puff before the last battery went out.
Want to know how much is left in you're battery? Press the little button on the end and a series of 10 led's lights up along the top to tell you.
Want a lighter puff to smoke more discreetly? Take a lighter draw, and the processor delivers the perfect amount of juice to the atomizer according to the volume and velocity of the airflow.
Noticing diminished vapor? instead of sucking through the mouthpiece, blow, and the reversed airflow triggers the cleaning function which heats the vaporizer to 10X it's normal temp and burns off any residue, wait 5 seconds, and you're ready to puff again, just like new.
All of these things are quite possible and practical using modifications of technology already available today to different sectors of industry.
I have no desire to go into the e-smoking business, frankly I don't have the time for such ventures, but I think that someone else will figure all this stuff out and start building products that fit the highest end of the market, then some of that tech will trickle down to the less expensive models.
