Dead battery trick for box mod .. bad idea? Good idea?

Whenever I'm out somewhere and the batteries go dead in my box mod, I just take one out for half of a second and it'll work again for a little while ... Is this a bad idea?

I was thinking I was defeating some kind of protection circuit in the mod, because it doesn't work if I just "leave it sitting for awhile" ... That's why I didn't know how great of an idea it was

If it's multiple batteries in series, often the lead one will be lower than the other. Swapping them when you guess they're about half-way should let you eke out a bit more time as well.
