Dead Kayfun Clone?

Earlier today when I came home I picked up the mech and fired it and it got hot, real hot. I wasn't hurt thankfully I let go of the fire button and checked the ohm on the kayfun and it was really low so I checked it again on an MVP 2 still low. I rebuilt it and was still getting low ohms, checked it on MVP again and still reading 0.00 ohms for some reason. Attached are pictures of the build and the bottom piece torn down. Insulators look fine so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? Thanks in advance.

Definitely a short somewhere. I'd double check everything to make sure.

Is that the fasttech clone? I ask because I purchased one a while ago and the insulator started burning.

After I took it apart and started investigating I noticed that the 510 pin which screws into the post wasn't completely round off and a sharp edge was contacting the atomizer...yikes.

I dremeled the pin a tad on its sides and the problem went away.

Frequently, if the air tube/screw is not tight, the positive block will rotate just enough to short against the negative block/base. Make sure when tightening the screw, that you hold it with pliers, and that there is an air gap between the two blocks.

The 510 screw head was too big on mine and shorting to the base. In the FT forums, there's others that had the same problem.
I put the tube it screws into in a drill, put the screw in it, and filed some off the head diameter. (.02")

Took a look at it and saw the short on the 510 connection was charred black and touching the side. Sanded it down and working like a champ now. Will hit it with a dremel when I find one. Thanks

Yep, these things are small and gaps are very close. Does not take much to make a good build into a dead short.
