I definitely agree with the idea of adding protection. I just do it with a simple zener cutoff circuit. Also the NoEgo's cut off at 3.5V. For a 3 cell pack I will have to run them down unprotected to see how they drain to figure out a safe zener voltage ratting to use. Using a simple 9.6 V base will be too low as the cell closest to the negative will drain more so it could run lower than 3.2V wile the one on the positive side is still around 3.5V. I am guessing 10V ~ 10.2V cutoff for 3 cells should be good.

Hi Ham .. just an observation here .. unless you want to carry around a big clunky box full of ni-cads, the only way to get 4.8v is with a VV. They make 3.3, 5, etc regs but 4.8? Not to my knowledge. Just cause you make a VV doesn't mean that you need to constantly change voltages (this is a common misconception). The whole idea is so you can fine-tune it to your own "sweet spot". Then you never need to touch the adjustment (until you want to try out some new atty or carto, that is). IMHO

AQlan

I agree that VV is a nice way to hit the "sweet spot" and that it doesn't have to be changed around much, I was only saying that running 4AA's is pretty much where my spot is, so I don't need (at the moment) to bother with VV... Yeah, they're big and clunky - my current PV is a 4AA box with a 2AA box glued to it to hold the switch, LED and atty connector - but I kinda like it that way, as it definitely prompts a lot of "what the $(&^ is THAT?" questions and gives me an excuse to evangelize :)

Fear not though, I'm sure that as the disease progresses, I'll eventually wander into VV territory, if for no other reason than to be able to say I've been there done that :) BTW, I've gotta say, you've been quite the inspiration for me WRT coming up with ideas for "out there" mods - keep it up!

Get a DoD dripper setup to put on top, people leave you alone, "umm, crazy person -- very bad medicine!!" :))

And they don not have to be big and clunky, flashlight mod is possible and very easy, and
it keeps nurse Crachet from sticking needles in me.

Dear Gummy,

Just stopping in for my checkup after your admonishment on the B&D Screwdriver thread. You'll be happy to know that this afternoon I just received a fresh batch of 510 connectors from Madvapes to replenish my stock (bonus, I ordered the regular ones, got the pre-wired ones instead... harder to keep intact in my pocket though). Now I'm actuvely on the hunt for items to mod that won't get me in TOO much trouble :)

Still trying to figure out how to work with FEMO clay well enough to be able to make a mod out of it... I'll keep you posted on my progress...

dear gummy

there is a serious problem on this thread. apparently there is an ecf member running around here with a pocketful of 510 connectors who joined over a year ago but only has 22 posts to his name. this cannot be allowed!
would you please notify nurse cratchet that some acute intervention is needed! ;)

I'm on it,,,

Normally I would just excuse it as being to busy modding to post but, He repaired the potential mod instead of modding it.

Alright Hambone,
Get with it,,,,,,, either mod something or post something, and frankly we really don't care which.
"Do something, even if it wrong" (or not, it's up to you)

LOL I'm working on both... managed to get up over the 25 post mark now, and am busy working on the plans for my next mod :) it's funny, I never knew about the ECF Veteran thing on the day of my anniversary (yesterday) and was sad to find I didn't quite qualify... I'll get there shortly though!

Or maybe I should've asserted that the problem will be rectified... now where did I put those diodes?

Oh and another thing, I was pumping gas into my car yesterday and looked down and noticed a 10 ohm 5 watt resistor just lying there on the ground... of course I immediately scooped it up... Is that find a sign? Oh wait this is the doctor's office, I'll have to go ask on the Gummy's Psychic Readings thread :)
