    Morning folks!

Dropped Rocky off at the vet this morning for what I thought would be neutering and hernia repair. But the vet office called me and said (after the doc examined) there was no sign of any hernia.

That's all well & good, less money from me, less trauma for him etc.

But it leaves me at a loss as to what exactly are the lumps I've been feeling in his abdominal area. They started out small down close to his groin area, but have since grown and usually run up along his inner thighs. They're soft and moveable and can be manipulated back down towards his groin. They feel (to me) to be tubular like an intestine would, and one side seems longer than the other.

I've read something somewhere about possible fat deposits in this area. Hopefully the vet can/will clear things up when I pick him up this afternoon.

Anyway, Emma and I miss him already. He cried all the way to the vet's, but he calmed down a good bit once we got inside. It seemed almost as if he recognized his former home.

I'll be glad that there's nothing to be concerned with regarding his belly. But he loves having his belly rubbed I and enjoy doing it for him, and those odd lumps somewhat detract from the whole thing. I was always worried about causing discomfort or making things worse. Maybe it won't be so bad knowing it's not a problem.

Yeah, that's Rocky's little stuffed Ren doll, from The Ren & Stimpy Show. Shirt says "U EEDIOT!".

    Nice looking kitty.

    Hope Rocky will be OK,Trav.
Since they say there's no hernia, it will just be a little routine *snip*. They do them by the hundreds I'm sure. It may not be so "routine" for Rocky but I doubt there will be any complications.

What I hope is that Rocky doesn't hate me for too long for putting him through it. ;)

One thing for sure, I highly doubt he'll be so easy to get into the cat carrier if for some reason there is a next time.

Keep the carrier out and open. Put the occasional treat in it. Point in it with the laser pointer. Get him used to it.

I don't do that with my bird carrier but I do with towels. The way to restrain a bird for nail clipping or whatever is to wrap it in a towel. Poeia hates being toweled for restraint but she's not afraid of it because I also use it for cuddling, making nests for her on my desktop and draping it over both our heads for special kisses. (Annabella wasn't afraid of it because Poeia didn't fuss about it so it had to be fine.)

But, whatever you do, don't lie to him. Don't point the laser in there and lock the door when he follows it in. Poeia sometimes doesn't want to get on my hand because she thinks I'm going to lock her in the cage. If I point to the desk or the hallway, she gets on, knowing we're going there. If I ever used it as an opportunity to put her in the cage, she'd never trust me again. This bird knows how to hold a grudge. (With her, it also works in reverse. If she starts nipping while we're playing, I scold her. If she continues, I point to the cage. Sometimes she's in a mood and purposely nips harder. I promptly pick up the screaming bird and deposit her on the cage (banishment is the punishment. I rarely put her inside.) But most of the time, one point and she's giving me very careful kisses using the curve of her beak instead of the tip.)

Yeah I keep the carrier out and open, it's not that he was afraid of it or anything. He's just gotten so big, he could've made it much tougher getting him into it than he did. He could barely turn around once inside, I think he may need the next size up.

However, I figure and god willing, since he has all of his shots & stuff and will now be fixed, any next time will be a looong time down the road.

Best of luck w/Rocky Trav. He's a beautiful kitty....I wanna reach through the screen and pet him. :)
He's got very thick soft fur. :)

Yay! Rocky's back! Seemingly none the worse. He's not hiding or being antisocial or anything, but he sure is starving. I had to cutoff food midnight last night.

First thing he did was head for the food. He'll eat wet food, then dry food, then spook around very briefly, and head right back to the food again stopping for a couple pets on the way. Rinse and repeat.

Oddly, he's gotten back into the carrier 3 or 4 times as well. I'd think it to be the last place he'd want to go.

He's yet to even acknowledge Emma's existence, but it could be worse. Usually when I bring one or the other cat back from the vet, they act like they don't know each other and want to fight. But then this was a very brief absence compared to others.

Spoke with the vet tech and she said that she felt nothing wrong either as far as a hernia goes. Beginning to wonder if I'm just overly sensitive about it, or if they just had a bunch of neuters scheduled to knock out and didn't want to get tied down with anything more involved.

Glad Rocky's back safe and sound, and that there was no sign of hernia. And that he's hungry. Very good sign. Those bumps may just be fat deposits, and not painful and nothing to worry about- especially if the vet checked them and didn't see any problems. Just keep an eye on them over time. My oldest dog has some, they gradually get a little larger, but don't seem to cause him any discomfort or difficulty.

Poeia's advice about the crate sounded perfect to me :)

Yeah I'm thinking that by the way they're acting, an actual hernia must present itself in some much more readily identifiable fashion.

I have been watching them grow since he was a kitten and they do cause him to lay funny. With his back legs spread out behind him instead of underneath (like the sphinx). But it doesn't seem to affect his running, jumping, playing, etc too much. He does seem to be getting a little lazier lately chasing the laser pointer, but he could just be losing interest.
