I just got a new vivi nova and a new ego-t battery. Straight out of the box -- no modifications or anything -- I did a couple quick dry burns to get rid of the factory residue and noticed the coil was only partially getting red. Only half of it was lighting up I thought it was weird, but went ahead with it (bad idea maybe). After a couple hours of use the new battery was fried. Won't take a charge, no light, no anything. Could a defective coil have caused that? Is that what happens if the wire is touching itself where it's wrapped around the wick?

Your battery might not be fried. Vivi Novas have odd 510 connections, many times a bit long. What could have happened is you tighted the Vivi down and it pushed the center pin of your battery down. You might try to pull the center pin up gently with a paperclip and see if you get contact again. VN used to do this to my KGO all the time.

Yeah, I'm familiar with that problem. I often have to pry the pin up on all my batteries in order to charge. However I only had this battery one day, never over tightened it. It won't take a charge, won't light up at all. I tried tapping the power button a bunch of times in case it had a safety off, but still nothing.
