This is a hard subject for me because I went through something very similar, It's not something I usually ever talk about but...... I am going to be really honest so please don't take offense......what you have described here is not the same as just having teeth pulled and it is nothing to mess around with, so, if you can do without vaping that would be your very best bet, seriously, that would be your very best bet.
You want to give yourself the best chance of getting rid of your long term infection so your bone graft has a chance to take.

If nothing else at the very least go nic free. As you said, nicotine constricts blood vessels and inhibits healing which is also a contributing factor in your long term infection not going away, and, as you have found lead to an osteomyelitis (bone infection) resulting in bone loss as the infection eats away at it and as long as the infection remains it will continue to eat away at the bone... it can lead to the loss of your jaw and doubles your risk for cardiovascular issues
(I suffered 3 separate heart attacks), bacterial endocarditis, glomerulonephritis, sepsis....

I'm having two lower molar extractions and bone grafting done in a week and can't imagine getting through it without vaping just a little. I've Smoked 40 years and have been vaping 4. Totally won't know what to do with myself. I'm already so stressed out, plus it's really expensive. I've read a couple of posts but there's lots of different opinions just couldn't read more than 2 pages due to not having made 5 posts yet. One was to hold the button down till the vapor builds up and draw very easy, another was to keep the gauze over the bone graft to protect it from being disturbed and creating a dry socket. For those of you who don't know, they ask you not to smoke or suck through a straw for a week, so you don't disturb the blood clot that's necessary for healing and prevent it coming out and creating a dry socket. Smoking 6mg now. Also if need be, Any suggestions on a 0mg tobacco flavor to cut out the nicotine.
I went through an extraction while vaping, the important thing to remember is that creating suction in your mouth is a very very bad thing to do or you will end up with dry socket which is extremely painful...

What I did is used a dripper with a wide bore drip tip, I would put my bottom lip on the bottom of the drip tip but tilted the mod away from me so it didn't actually seal the drip tip/touch my top lip, fired the mod and basically breathed in... I still got tonnes of vapor and no dry socket :)

A bone graft, or tissue graft, dentally speaking, is light years away from an extraction, a root canal and even an apicoectomy (root canal where they go in from the top of tooth thru the gum), or any kind of other periodontal surgery.

I have had all these things, including both kinds of grafts.

The chances of ANY graft "not taking" is very very high to begin with. And having the graft die and having to do it over again is no picnic. Not to mention risky (and of course, added expense to an already exorbitantly expensive procedure).

Under no cirumstances should you be vaping. Or smoking. If you must, get the lowest nic patch you can (because nicotine is a vasoconstrictor) and slap it on ya. Otherwise, your only other option is Chantix, which will definitely remove your desire to vape or smoke. (I had no problem with it, but others have, so you may want to talk over w/your doctor. )

I'm sure you've been instructed on the food, too......only soft foods. You do not want to disturb the graft site in any way.

Hope you are progressing and healing up.
