Determining wire gauge

I have a spool of mystery wire. Is there a way to determine the gauge?

There is a tool to measure but, I would go to your local vape shop if u have one and compare.

Assuming we know the alloy.

To the OP: a decent set of calipers would be able to tell the width but it might be easier to compare to a known set of wires.

I have one or two spools of known gauge, so I'll bust out the calipers and compare. I could have thought of that if my caffeine level were proper...

Gotta love CRS! Don't worry, I suffer greatly from it myself!

A vernier caliper or micrometer will do fine to measure it. Digital verniers is a good investment for other duties and can be found locally for under $15 these days. The used to cost over $300 back in the days !
