Picked a couple of these up from lje a few days ago. I realize this is an 'avanced user' item but I kinda of figured it was a ready to go out of the box thing, it proved me wrong quickly. I got a few great hits off of it then I started getting the burnt taste, I assumed it was a wicking issue. I been tinkering with it, recoiled and popped and rewrapped coils a few times, tried altering the height of the wick, and after that I realized it can't really be that cause theres mass amounts of vapor flowing. Turning voltage down on my mod seemed to help with the burn taste but then of course it's not producing the proper vapor. I'm sure theres info already here, but after a few headaches and hours of raking the forums I've just missed it. Last carto just died on me and this is all I have to survive with for several weeks, talk about stress. There's just so much going on right now I want to just crawl in a hole :[

Yeah, that's another bad thing, no instructions no good info on the site. But I did some digging around and it looks like the mesh that came with it is 304, and I'm using 60pg/40vg juice.

304? That's quite coarse. You may want to look into getting a finer mesh such as 400 or 500. Those will transmit juice properly.

Yeah, I'm starting to think this wasn't the best one to pick up for my first rba, the wire is 34g too, super thin, not fun to work with as I just popped another coil. I'm stubborn and wanna get this going though *shakes fist*

The atomizer itself isn't bad. In essence, all the genesis atomizers really do the same thing. It's your selection of wick and wire that wasn't great, provided you did select it and it didn't come with it. Anyway, mesh and wire are cheap, so if you don't mind spending a few extra bucks, you can get a set-up you're happy with even with that juice. If you have a juice that's 100%PG or at least 70/30, then you shouldn't have any problems with the 304.

Yeah, didn't really get to choose any of it, which is unfortunate, though a stock kit does have appeal. I think I'm getting a little bottle of 70/30 in the mail tomorrow which should hold me over til next payday, and I got enough wire to do one more coil, so all I can really do now is just sleep on it and try again tomorrow. Most likely, I'll be back for more troubleshooting and whatnot.

Since you're getting low on coil wire, I'd suggest setting it up with the bluegrasslovers method as that's a sure fire way of getting it going with no hot spots and no popping the coil. Start this video at about 1:00 to see what he's doing. A q-tip is a good supply of cotton if you have one. Mesh/Cotton hybrid wick Bluegrasslover's method - YouTube

Remember, no dry burning once the cotton is on so this is a little harder to clean as you have to clean the cotton off and re-apply it to clean.

Once you get more wire to experiment with, remember that pulsing is your friend. Always assume that you have a short starting out and be patient with your pulsing. As you pulse, heat is building up and eventually you'll see it. Poke at your coils a little (any where, it's the movement that counts) and get you first coil glowing, then second and right down the line.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for that JD1, I've spent alot of time on youtube the past couple days, I'll check it out :] There was a bit of delay on my juice delivery, so I'll have to wait for monday to do more tinkering but it is the weekend so I'm sure there will be something to keep my mind off it til then hehe. Thanks for all your help so far too Dredd!

34g is going to be hard for you to get that working with as a new Gennie user, not enough resistance differential between the resistance wire and the wick, very easy to get hot spots. Get some 32 or 30 and you will have much better luck. I can send you a foot of each one to try if you want, I think you'll find it much easier to get rid of your hot spots.

I apologize for the late response, these doctor visits have been wearing me out. If this offer is still open that would be amazing, I had a friend give me his last bit of wire (which unfortunately was the same guage) and I had the same results, so I hopped back on here to see if there was any further response.

Its amazing your knowledge of the gauge wire the did comes with
its rather difficult to know what the wire gauge is on bare soild wire

the did I purchased came with 30 gauge
I doubt it was 34 gauge, maybe the new ones have a change

I popped my top coil on the badly oxidized wick out the box
the wick wasn't clean tasting either

you need to re-oxidize and boil your wick and re wrap the coil
just keep toying with it after you make those changes its a great cheap utility atomizer
next up is the tank it will definitely crack on ya

this atomizer suxxs .... but with a few changes its pretty nice

Sounds like you may not be doing the proper genesis tilt.
You talkin to me ? If you are, The mesh wicks just fine. My body must be sensitive to SS mesh. I'm not giving up on my DID though. I'm gonna insert a ss wick into some Ekowool silica and see how that goes. I've had this damn DID for almost a year now, and spent way too much money for it.

Nope...the OP and his burnt taste. Didn't see anyone tell him about this. For you, I recommend trying the Nextel ceramic rope from BigTex. I got some of the super skinny 1/32 stuff from him and haven't used a mesh wick since. Still gotta tilt though. Want to try the 1/16 when he gets it in.
Cool man thanks. I'll let you know how my experiment goes.
