Did I already break my new 510 atty?

I just got my first 510 and I have a question. As I was messing around with it, ya know, getting to know it, I noticed something protruding from under one of the atomizer coils. So I took a paper clip and removed it. It turned out to be a small wad of some kind of polyester filaments neatly tucked under the atty.

So my question is, what is this stuff, and did I already ruin my atomizer?

There's some sort of wick underneath the atomzier that is supposed to stay there. I think sometimes in the manufacturing, the wick winds up being a bit too long, and folks mess with it, figuring it shouldn't be there . . . best bet is to trim it or leave it alone, from what I understand.

But don't worry too much. I've heard of some folks having inadvertently removed it, only to find that the atomizer functions okay without it. Just keep your atomizer moist. . . the 510 is a juice hog, and I suspect the wicking underneath is to ensure that the atomzier stays moist.

Does anyone know per chance what the material is? Since it's directly in contact with the atty it apparently doesn't melt or burn. So I would like to purchase more and use it as a wicking material that I can put in the atomizer itself. I shouldn't have to worry about it burning right? I mean, it's right on the friggin atty so it can't be flammable at that temperature.
