Did I Make The Right Decision On A First Mod?

Hello all. Im going to try to not be long winded here...
I scoured the internet, YouTube and countless online vape store descriptions and reviews for a mod. I never purchased one. I'm new to all this.
I said before, I'm fresh off of cigarettes. I cast analog smokes aside by using disposable vapes. I still use the disposables but wanted something more so I bought an vaporesso xros4. I really don't like this type of vape at all. In fact, I prefer using the disposables over this type of system.
I looked around a bit and decided to purchase a Tesla punk 86w. I actually bought two just in case one breaks down. To go with it, I went with a Dead Rabbit mtl rta. I'd like to rebuild my own coils and have the option to refill and eventually mix my own liquids.
I'm not trying to create clouds or anything. I just want a dependable nicotine delivery system. I went with this Tesla because it has to fit in my pocket at work. It looked like it would be comfortable size in the pocket and feel good in the hand. Idk. We shall see.
This thing has to be dependable because I travel around for work. On the job, I'm pretty much walking in the middle of interstate highways, operating heavy equipment, all while watching traffic and making sure no one is going to hit me or my coworkers. Lack of nicotine = distraction and that's not a good situation.
I like the removable battery option because I can always have charged batteries on stand by.
Is the Tesla 86 with a dead rabbit mtl rta a good option in regard to dependability? Is it good for plain old mouth to lung vaping like a cigarette? Do I need more power? Less power? Something else?
Any guidance, advice and/or comments will be appreciated Maybe that was a bit long winded... My apologies.
Many thanks!

i'm pretty sure Teslacigs doesn't make that model anymore or do much, if any, business in the USA anymore but, when they did, they had a good reputation as far as i know. The Punk mods definitely had fans.

A single 18650 mod will provide all the power you'll need for MTL, which is what you want. The DR RTA should work just fine with the mod. Might look a little off but that's purely aesthetic. The DR RTAs have a good reputation. i have 1 (a different model) that's been working well.

The specs say the mod is little over 4" long. Add the tank and you'll have 6 - 7.5 inches, depending on the glass installed & a 1" diameter. Good for your pocket?

You do know that you'll need to install a coil & wick in the tank yourself, right? The DR will come w/ what you need to get started except for sharp scissors and ceramic tweezers. i hope you have good batteries and a charger for them, too.

Soot & such from the roads will get into the hardware & mess w/ it. Please be aware of that & try to keep your gear clean.

Best of luck.

What strength of juice are you using? Keep in mind that disposables are usually 50mg/ml, which is stronger than most commercial juices, so you may be experiencing nicotine withdrawal, even as you vape your new setup. You might consider increasing the strength of your juice and also weaning yourself off the disposable and onto the new mod.

I ended up purchasing the Tesla mods from France. I suppose they'll get here eventually. They are not in hand yet.
I realize that I will be making and installing coils and cotton. Yes. I figured that with the variable settings, coil options, resistance, etc... I could fine tune my flavors, other ingredients and throat hit to my liking. I do have a good multimeter if I would need it. A coil winder is on order. I'm covered on sharp scissors and precision wire cutting. Ceramic tweezers have to be put on the list. I can certainly see the benefits of ceramic tweezers.

I'm not really concerned about aesthetics of the set up right now. Personally, I think the mod is ugly as sin, especially with the drip tips DR is putting with their mtl rta is just ridiculous. I'm glad it comes with a shorter drip tip. This thing just has to work. Purely utilitarian. All my work pants have a long deep pocket on the leg. Carrying the thing around with protected easy access shouldn't be an issue. I'm also not beneath getting a belt holster for it. I'll have to see what works.

I didn't really take the cleanliness of the gear into account. You are correct about the dust on the road. There are weeks at a time when I live in a dust cloud. So, thank you for bringing that to my attention. I was trying to find shock proof mods with an ipx rating but couldn't find any in stock. Also, I thought I saw a leak resistant rta made in Germany or Switzerland on some high end vape website but I wasn't shelling out that kind of money to put on a mod that will be with me on the road. We'll call it road mod
Batteries and charger. This is where I'm a bit stuck. I was looking at the Nightcore D4 charger. I know it's not a quick charger. I don't think I want a quick charger for this type of battery. I would like to get the best of the best 18650 batteries. I'll have to go over the table that Mooch put up with a fine tooth comb and then see what I can get my hands on.

For right now I'm vaping some off the shelf stuff I mixed together. One is called pod juice - cookies and cream with 35mg of nic. I think it's a salt nic but I'm not sure. The package says " Better than your currant salt nic". Little did they know, I never had a current salt nic. Anyway, 35mg nic 50vg/50pg and I mix it about half and half with a 0mg nic 70/30 berry crunch from The Milk. It tastes ok. Doesn't taste great out of a Vaporesso xros pod system. It does taste a lot better than a burning cigarette. I bought the juice from a local vape store. I'd certainly like to get some better quality juice but don't really know where to start with that. There must be thousands of juices out there. To many choices and a lot of room for companies to have people snatch up their garbage.

In regard to disposables, I'm gravitating toward geek bars. They taste alright, rechargeable is a plus but they are a bit punchy on nicotine.
Sorry for all the words. My time is limited these days but I try to pop on here to cram and communicate on free weekend days. Fortunately, this weekend is a free one.
All the best to everyone. Thanks!

At times, it can be a hard choice to get an idea from pictures to pick a mod or a tank. Would there be any brick and mortar vape stores near you? It might give you a better idea as to what size or form of mod would work for you. A word of advice: if they can't answer questions clearly (meaning, whether they are just floating BS), at least take some quick pictures of a mod you might like, then go back home and do a little research on it that way.

    Good luck.:thumb::thumb:

My mother used to say "ugly as homemade sin" lol

    Homemade sin. I like it.

There are vape stores around me but none within a 50 mile radius that sell replaceable battery mods or rta's. Everything I can purchase by walking into an actual store will be either disposable or a built in battery pod system.
I jumped in my car last weekend and did a driving tour of vape shops from the town I live in, all the way to Pittsburgh (long ride). There were a few shops that looked promising but they ALL turned out to be permanently closed. It looks like I got into this at the wrong time.
I placed two orders from a shop in France. Both orders never made it through customs and were sent back from whence they came. Gotta love the nanny gov't
I ended up with a geek vape s100. from Element Vape. I like the mod and I like the store because their stuff actually makes it to my house!
Sooooo... I'm going to have to stock up now, huh?

If you're not in a hurry, I'd recommend looking into the Chinese sites like sourcemore. The prices are better and shipping costs aren't much more and there's a bigger selection. The downside is that it takes a long time to get to you. Items usually make it through customs, but there's always a slim chance they won't. There's so many packages coming in from China that customs cannot catch much.

There are several DIY threads, so no need to start another one. This thread is older but has all the basics.

I'd recommend watching some YouTube videos on DIY as well. You should then join us on the DIY random thread.
