Did I mess up my nautilus?

I decided to try and rebuild one of my heads which was burnt just now. I kind of messed up the placement of the cotton so I tried to back it out which it did but it also brought a little cup with it. Not to sure what the point of the cup is and all the filler material is still there. Youtube made this seem a lot easier lol

I found out people call it a heat shield. Is this something that will affect my vape? Still trying to figure out it's purpose.

LOL people should ask manufacturers. It is an absorbent pad to aid in e-liquid transfer/control.
I'd say you would be better off slipping it back into place during your build.
