As a newbie, I can see how this could turn into a groovy little hobby! It's exciting and fun! You get to play with shiny things and get to have chocolate or pie or candy all day with no calories!! Happy day!!!

yet another benefit of vaping... i almost never eat desserts anymore. i vape them! all my old habits like lighting a cig as soon as i finished a meal are still with me but now i skip the sweets and head straight to my vape. healthier all the way around. hang in there. <*}}}>{

Definitely a lot of fun researching new mods and attys, and of course having a constant stream of new flavours to try!

I've been using 18mg exclusively since starting back up properly, but I added a few bottles of 12mg of the stronger flavours to my order. I'll see how those go but I'm not in a rush to decrease the nic since it's not doing me any harm. The only advantage I can see to go lower is that I won't feel the need to vape and I can just do it for the sheer enjoyment!

Its become a hobby. I am reading so much more about it, checking sites and stores nearby. I ask questions and its amazing how many people respond. Yes I haven't smoked a cigarette but I am also finding a nice community of people. Whether people find it asa hobby or not doesn't matter as much it still helped us to quit the cigarettes which to me is the goal.

The most helpful part of the hobby aspect for me is the community. That, and the gadgetry side.

That there's an enthusiastic community to "be a part of" is nice. People are encouraging and helpful if you go to the right place, there's always more to learn and try, and knowing that I'm jumping into a revolution of sorts in the early stages of its existence is pretty cool.

On the gadgetry side... I love my toys. I'm writing from my tablet, with my smartphone next to me, and spend an ungodly amount of time and energy keeping up with tech industries/consumer products. This is a pretty specialized industry that's developing super fast and there is such an abundance of stuff to learn about (and/or shop for lol).
Trading one meaningless addiction for a rewarding hobby that's 98% healthier is great too. Not many of my hobbies are healthy per se

My main reason for switching from analogs to E-Cigs was the obvious health advantages. The nicotine was a huge factor in my success and the thought of all the money I would save. Well so far I'm not saving near the money I thought I would because of all the different liquids, tanks and other options there are to choose from and I feel I need to try them all LOL. So know it really is becoming a sort of hobby for me and it does seem to help keep my mind off cigarettes and focused on vaping.

Yeah... and it's 2:48 AM.

Congratulations and welcome! :toast:

Liar! Your post says 5:49AM! Geez, you guys on the West Coast can't even tell time!!!

Perhaps more to the point, I think one of the reasons I could never quit cigarettes is that I do have this compulsive aspect to my personality. I think it's much more accurate to say that smoking was a compulsion, rather than an addiction. And vaping has become a compulsion; to learn everything I can about it, to try different heads and batts, to try winding my own coils, and experimenting with them. I am compulsive about all that.

Watching "Junkyard Wars" somehow got me compulsive about welding. I bought several (new, used, industrial) welders, read about 1000 welding patents, and know (or at least knew) a tremendous amount about welding, plasma-cutting, and even bizarre things like oxygen lances. Can I weld 2 pieces of metal together? Nope. (I could probably get them to stick together on a good day).

At least I've had better luck with vaping stuff.

Obviously the nicotine and the feel help a lot, but for me, jumping into the hobby aspect of vaping help me a LOT. I tend to jump into things with both feet. Doing the research on mods, tanks, juices etc. have really helped keep my mind off of smoking almost as much as the vapor itself! I am definitely not saving money vs smoking right now, but I'm having a blast and haven't had a smoke in days! Anyone else find the hobby super helpful too? If you're on this forum, I'm guessing yes ;)

An Empathetic YES!

I tinker, with everything.

Bought an Evod starter kit with no more than quitting smoking in mind.

That worked great. haven't smoked in 3 months now.

Once I discovered i enjoyed vaping, I bought all kinds of tanks and gear to upgrade my setup to a more long term vaping solution. I found that most of the "better" gear involved a lot more knowledge and hands on "tinkering" to be made reliable and suitable to the vape I prefer.

I don't consider my Nemesis RDA clone a chore to recoil or rebuild, it's more of a challenge to me to make a clean, tidy build that lasts for weeks with no issues. I may be one of few on the planet (judging by all the posts on this board) that can vape a PT2 down to dribbles left without flooding issues (Rebuild a stock Kanger coil with care and attention).

The biggest hurdle was learning the jargon and understanding just how this stuff works. Its not hard but attention to detail is important. Vaping reliably is more about setting your gear up (and understanding that you have to perform maintenance to keep your gear working well).

Yep, I found a hobby that works for me. I can vape on my gear while tinkering with any one of my other projects. Then, when my vaping gear needs tinkering, I can vape on my other vaping gear while tinkering with my vaping gear.

I guess my hobby is tinkering. I just don't smoke while I tinker anymore!

After 3 PAD since 74, been camel free since January 8th, so nicotine and great flavored juice got me trough the first couple weeks, then I found all the cool mods, tanks, and other assorted goodies there was to be had, and now it is a great hobby( compulsion).
But enjoying the ride!!

I started vaping to quit but got into the hobby in a big way. I believe that that is what got me over the hump. Once it became a hobby, I had no desire to every have a cigarette again. Been 5 months and I still feel that way. Not sure at this point that I have saved any money yet and I smoked 2+ packs a day when I quit. Keep buying things.

I don't have the budget to get into the "hobby" per se but part of what makes vaping effective is that you're replacing a habit with a like habit and your zippos and cigarette packs for other gadgets. Cleaning your toppers and charging things up, trying out new flavors if you get bored with one (or ten - my juice collection is pretty immense)... these things are a great distraction when you're quitting smoking.

It also doesn't change your social habit if you're used to going outside with your friends while they smoke, you can still do that and be part of the crowd if you want to. I've been amazed at my ability to be around people who are smoking and not want one. AT ALL. *gag*!! And that's where having a cool gadget can be useful too because people get curious about what you have and might get interested themselves in having a "shiny" and switching to vaping too :)
