I never took the silicone cap off (except once, on purpose, in a desperate attempt to improve ProTank wicking).
But I DID spend about a minute trying to unscrew the "second section" of my VAMO tube. View attachment 255680
I don't think that will work on a Protank (which I can't remember if you are using or not), but with top coil clearos (including Vivis), where the cap is close to the top, you can flip the cap over, so the longer part is higher.
I can't remember why we did it, I haven't used clearos in a very long time.

I also took that little piece off but after a long debate with myself and finding a youtube video, I quickly put it back on! I thought to myself I bet I'm the only person who did this!!!
When oriented in the normal direction the cup seal touches the wicks and compresses them slightly, and slightly obscures the feed hole, which restricts feed. Simply flipping the cup over increases feed to a small degree.
