NOTE: This question is for my article:
Negative Reactions Mystify Electronic Cigarette Users[/URL]

Please only answer if you are willing to be quoted for the article and use your full name & location.

Please tell me why you started vaping if it wasn't for the health benefits. I need some quotes for the article that go beyond the health benefits.

Maybe it was to not stink like smoke. Maybe it was to be able to be more productive at work with less smoke breaks. Maybe it was to smoke indoors. Maybe it was to save money. Maybe it was to make your family happy.

I want to hear from you if something OTHER THAN health benefits was the deciding factor for you - not in addition to the health benefits.

I thought it was going to make me a superhero .... jk lol Um .....

Everything you mentioned is really the reason why most of us did it. But I can tell you one of the other BIGGER reasons was that I could "smoke" different flavors. I always wanted to find a cigarette that had a blueberry, cherry, etc. taste to it. I never liked being stuck with regular or menthol analogs.

I'm not sure if that would be a good idea to put that in your article because FDA & ASH think flavors are only for kids. They have the "Tricks are for kids!" mentality. As if no grown ups eat cereal.

Take away the word "maybe" from the above sentences. In addition to the productivity angle at work, I found vaping at my desk helps with concentration. I don't have to stop in the middle of something to take 15 minutes to walk outside and smoke an analog.

I'm doing it to make my family happy. My wife and daughters worry about my smoking. It will be nice to be able to sit in my chair in the living room and watch a movie with my family and not have to make them pause it halfway through so I can have a smoke. My wife hates to kiss me after I have a smoke because of the smell, so it will be great to never worry about that again.

Hey Kristen...I picked up an e-cig not for any perceived health benefit because to date the evidence is scant. I'm a smoker, I've smoked 35 years, and have never tried to quit except to demonstrate to myself that I can. I simply enjoy smoking. When the e-cig technology became known to me as a smoker, of course I had to try it.

Part of the attraction was the resemblance to respiratory therapy equipment. While a graduate student I worked as a pulse oximetry technician at a children's hospital. Thus, I had an insider's look into chronic respiratory disease and the measures to improve health in the sufferers. Most oxygen and medicines were delivered to the patients via a moisture base and inhaled. Thus the technology made sense to me, that smoking or "vaping" a suspension would be more enjoyable and smoother than smoking a cigarette. The theory proved to be true.

In short, I have never desired to quit smoking, I enjoy smoking, if the experience is smoother I find I enjoy the experience more. As an inveterate smoker I have already accepted the fact that some of my choices may effect probable outcomes...but such is life. If vaporizing helps to alleviate some of those outcomes, it is a side benefit, but not the reason I began vaping.:D

I didn't start using them for health reasons. I decided to try PVs because I was tired of the cost of cigarettes going up. When the price of the brand I was smoking went from $23 to $35 in one week I was fed up. I had accepted cigarette taxes going up to pay for the added cost of health care because of smoker related illnesses in the past, but I could not stomach the thought of paying for state and federal government shortfalls due to the economy. I don't feel that only a small portion of the population should have to pay more sales tax than others just because politicians don't want to anger most of their constituency. If i had not had PVs to turn to I would have kept smoking and just grumbled about the fact that my cost went up by 50% over night, but this time I had an option and I jumped on it.

Added to the cost benefit, I liked the fact that my house and clothes would no longer smell like cigarettes and I wouldn't be putting 35 cigarette butts into the landfill daily. I no longer have to worry about my cats knocking over my ashtray and having to clean up ashes and butts.

It never occurred to me that I would feel so much better, be able to breathe deeply for the first time in 23 years, and be able to taste things that had lost much of their flavor from my smoking. These are great bonuses, but they were not even a consideration when I bought my first PV.

I started vaping solely because of smoking bans. Smoking bans, IMO, are evil fascist attempts to mold behavior and denormalize them in the process. I saw the e cig and its description: no tobacco, no fire, no smoke, etc, and I read the definition of "smoking" in the Ohio smoking ban. Vaping is not covered by the smoking ban, according to the head anti-smoker at the ODH. He admitted this in an email message, along with advice to JUST QUIT. Once I got into vaping; however, I found to my surprise, that I really liked it and that my consumption of real cigs started dropping dramatically. I went from a pack a day for 40 years to 1-2 cigs a day where I mean to stay. If I want more real cigs, I have them, but it is rare that I do. I had no noticeable health effects from smoking: no cough, no shortness of breath, etc. but who knows what the later damage may be. I have not really noticed any changes in health, either positive or negative. All I know is that I am enjoying vaping and buying packs of cigs that last for more than a week. I actually sometimes throw away cigs because they are stale. If vaping is banned, my anger with the current nanny state will probably cause me to have a stroke.

This is a great quote! May use it in the article? If yes, please PM me your full name. Thanks!

A lot of good stuff here! Do I already have your name for the article?

I first tried it because of the constant coughing. Actually, I should say violent coughing. I thought I could use the e-cig for a short time to quit.

2 weeks into it, the coughing slowly went away, and the third week I was "Cough Free." then I started to notice the side effects.
No more shortness of breath.
No stink.
Much less expensive.
Many more plus factors, but I can honestly say at this time, it is enjoyable.

I originally bought an e-cig with no intention to quit smoking analogs. The college I'm currently going to decided to ban smoking everywhere on campus including their parking lots. I had recently heard about the e-cig and figured it would help with cravings while at school.

I enjoyed vapeing so much I quit analogs right from the start, and never looked back. The other benefits such as health and financial are just icing on the cake.

I've been vapeing for about 3 weeks now. I'm honestly disgusted by cigarettes now that I don't smoke them anymore. Of course I don't look down on anyone that does as I can relate, but the idea of going back to them is repulsive to me. Even if the e-cig gets banned I will never go back to analogs.

$7/pack to tar my lungs and stink up my clothes and house....no thanks!
