Negative Reactions Mystify Electronic Cigarette Users[/url]

Do you think that big tobacco and/or big pharmacies are behind the anti-ecig campaign? Tell me why - what reason would they have? What tactics are they using? What misinformation they put out? What links can be clearly shown between people posting misinformation and their financial backing by the big tobacco, etc?

Need to show what possible motive the FDA and other anti-smoking groups would have to fit ecigs and lie about the dangers.

I believe tobacco companies are behind the misinformation, not just against e-cigs but against other smoking replacements in general.

The reason, to put it concisely so i don't go on too long about it is this:
As long as the public believes that all smoking alternatives are as dangerous as smoking, people who struggle with quitting will see no reason to switch to something else and will keep smoking. This way, the tobacco companies can continue to profit off of all smokers who cannot quit because they believe there is nothing they can do to reduce their risk.

I'll pm you my name in a moment. I cannot thank you enough for doing all this :)

This is quotable for the article.

Anyone else want to weigh in on the topic & be quoted?

The tobacco companies' have attempted to sell versions of the e-cig that heated the tobacco versus tobacco derivatives but there was no market and charity groups such as ACS wanted it removed from availability. The e-cig technology is not new, or original, a form of it has been on and off the market since 1988. The battle for the current version of the technology has just begun. I would not be surprised to see the original patents to be held by the tobacco companies. RJR's offering:

Eclipse - Tobacco Products

Kristin -

ASH PR: State AGs Asked to Ban E-Cig Sales

ASH made this quote on their own website!!!!

1 and 5 are of most interest. 1 is the quote as noted... AND in 5... they suggest you use gum, patch, nasal spray, all of which are made by Pfizer who FUNDED ASH with $100,000 this year alone.

Conspiracy! Hell yeah!

I think that Big Pharm would have the most to lose, since their smoking cessation products have on average less than a 10% success rate. Who would want to buy their products if PVs were proven to be more effective?

I can't tell you how much money I've wasted on nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, nasal sprays... and I'm not alone. A lot of people who try (unsuccessfully) to quit have spent tons of money on these methods, only to go right back to smoking again because they just don't provide any relief from the other habit you get from smoking. The hand-to-mouth, mental addiction.

Sorry...

"people who struggle with quitting will see no reason to switch to something else and will keep smoking."

If you look at #1 on the link I provided you... ASH says this. Then, in #5 on the same link, they also note that smokers should use NRT's.

The same NRT's that help fund ASH. They received $100,000 from Pfizer who makes the nasal spray, the gum, the patch, and Chantix and I have the PDF for you of proof if you want that too :)

This is the most important part as far as 'reporting' goes:

"What links can be clearly shown between people posting misinformation and their financial backing by the big tobacco, etc?"

If you don't have that, then anything else is hearsay and speculation or worse 'conspiracy theories' that could be used against the 'movement'. Remember these guys are thoroughly educated in propaganda and how to use it effectively to make their opponents look crazy. Look what at what's happening in the health care debate. Those that want it are 'fascists' and those that don't want it are currently 'militia types'.

And it is equally possible that it is merely gov't that is the culprit with or without big tobacco and big pharma. But as you ask, there must be a 'clear' connection with facts, not specuation, or 'it has to be!' because without facts, it doesn't _have to be_.

The big thing now is the FDA statement that they found an ingredient in e-cig's that is also an ingredient in anti-freeze. Very clever on their part, because it leads the uninformed to think that there is anti-freeze in e-cigs.

Too many folks in this country can be easily panicked by well chosen words. It's nothing more than propaganda.
