Hi guys, I've been switching between the following setups now for almost a year and a half now:

1) Kangertech Protank 3 + innokin iTazte VV V3 battery: 2ohms dual coil in tank, V4.3 or P7.5 setting depending on mood
2) Caravela 18350 + Crown Dripping rba: 0.8ohms, organic cotton, efest 800 mAh battery
3) Caravela 18350 + Terminator-C v2 Tank RBA: 1.8ohms, wick, efest 800 mAh battery

I vape for flavour of the juice as well as being able to blow enough smoke (let say enough to do a few smoke rings if that gives you a visual representation).

I'm finding the first setup is working better for me than the mech mods:

- The juice tastes much better than the 18350 mech mod setups. Not too warm and the flavour is there whereas with the mech mods the flavour isn't so much.
- I can plug it directly into a usb port for charging whereas the mech mods hassle of the battery is off-putting.

Which leads me onto the following...

- Does anyone have a similar experience with mech mods? If so, are there any tips on getting them to perform better than a starter kit?
- Should I buy a box mod? What are the differences between a box mod, vv/vw tube battery and a mech mod?

Thanks

It depends on if the box is a mech or regulated. I find different juices do better /worse at different settings.
If you are dealing with a regulated device you just change your setting.
If dealing with a mech you change your build.
The difference is mostly aesthetics as far as tube vs box if both are regulated. I don't think you really need to know what the difference is between a regulated device and a mechanical do you? One has a chip and wires, the other doesn't.

@keepsmiling: Thanks, I did think that would be the case. But I hear the box mods provide a higher wattage than the tube ones. Like DNA30, DNA40 etc. Would like to know more about them to be honest.

@LMS62: Sorry, corrected typo. Was meant to say "vape" there. Was re-writing that sentence a couple of times lol.

I guess I can just buy myself a box mod to try out then...

I prefer using batteries that I can change out so while I have an ileaf 30 that I really like, knowing that at some point it is going to be a paperweight doesn't make me happy. I also am not up for rebuilding anything--that stress could send me back to cigs, LOL. I recently bought an iPV mini that uses 18650 rechargable batteries and has all the adjustments in terms of vv/vw that you need. I really like it and it wasn't horribly expensive. The Clouper Mini is also good although there were some issues with qc in the early batches, apparently, and that might be a concern.

@Bad Ninja

Thanks for your feedback. At the moment I have 3 x 18350 batteries which I always have ready off the charger to vape from. However, I would like to have that VV/VW option without having to rebuild coils to get the sweet spot, which is why I still go back to my starter vape kit, the itazte vv v3 + protank 3. It never fails to impress -- top up with juice, pick up the usb cable and away you go.

Changing coils is easy too as I can buy a coil pack for little cost, saving me the hassle. That's the reason I'd like to try out a box mod + a tank with a subohm coil build to see if I can really feel the difference.

Don't get me wrong, I love building my crown coils but for the most part, I don't feel like I get a decent flavour compared to the protank 3. The vape is warmer and the flavour is not all there. I use organic cotton for the wick. Is that the issue? Also, I have a dual coil setup @ .8ohms... Is he .5ohm build you recommended with a single coil or dual? What gauge wire and how many wraps?

@cbrite Thanks for your testimonial on the IPV. Just tempts me into buying it a bit more. :)
