Hello and welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here!:)

Check out a few blog posts by Baditude (one of our resident battery experts).

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

What is the difference between IMR & ICR batteries???

ICR is "protected" meaning it has protection cells built in.
IMR is "safe chemistry"....but if they go thermal they don't explode.

Generally, people use IMRs now pretty much unless you have a mod that manufacturer specifies specifically what kind of batt you MUST use

ICR cells - also called regular Li-ion batteries, LiCo, unprotected lithium batteries, protected lithium cells - are now obsolete and should not be used for any ecig application.

Only use IMR or hybrid cells now. IMR = LiMn, lithium manganese rechargeable. Hybrid = lithium hybrid chemistry rechargeable.

The brands that can be found include AW, MNKE, Sony, Efest, Panasonic, Samsung, Orbtronic.

Basic Li-ion cells (ICR) should no longer be used for any electric/electronic vaporizer application.

It doesn't matter if they are protected or not - they are RIP.

ICR does not come with protection automatically. Those cells would be pretty hard to even find in a vape shop anymore.
Pure ICR are used in laptops. And are no good for vaping

As a matter of fact LG HE's are cobalt based. But they are hybrids to be safer. NiMnCo to be exact
Hybrid or not LG still labels them ICR, they are required to.

Only in vaping is this being hidden by calling them IMR

I hate to keep popping bubbles but as popular as the he battery is ICR class isn't going anywhere soon

and in the true interest of safety we need to stop saying cobalt batteries don't exist anymore when people here recommend them every day.

People can attack me and argue all they want
Oh but they contain Mn, oh but they are hybrids.

Doesn't matter if their safer, they are still listed as ICR class batterie,s this is accepted worldwide and only here are people constantly trying to deny they exist. Yet we talk about getting our facts straight in regards to batteries

But I really never had a problem using these AW ICR protected batts in a provape-1 for instance. The provape product has plenty of built in protection itself and vaping on such a low v mod I feel perfectly fine using these. Of course, I also have only used the best charger (PILA) and I test my batts every time, and a non VV mod is not going to stress these batteries in the least. :)
