Currenty I own a 510 and want to go lower on my nic but find that the throat hit is diminished (huge factor for me). I would like to know the diff between the 510/901 battery strength vs the 3.6volt and 6.0 volt strengths, the size length of the 6v compared to the 3.6v, and how one can be 3.6 or 6v? Basically, I would like the biggest throat hit possible on the lowest nic on something that doesn't look/feel completely awkward when using it. Thanks for any input you can give me.

Well your regular 510/901 battery is 3.7v. The problem with them is they have a low mAh rating. Usually around 180 mAh. The mods that have the bigger batteries such as the Prodigy and Protege use batteries in the 900 - 2500 range. What this offers is not only longer run time but more consistent vapor production and throat hit.

The Prodigy has the ability to use two 3 v rcr123 batteries which total 6v. The Prodigy uses a resistor in the switch to reduce the voltage under load to around 5v. This is what they call the sweet spot. If you ever try 6v you will notice a difference in the flavor of your juice. It tastes a little burnt. But if you learn to take shorter draws it is not so bad.

Now the Protege is a smaller device using a battery the same size as a AA battery. It takes the 14500 3.7v 900 mAh battery. The voltage is the same as a regular e-cig but run time is greatly increased plus the vapor production is more consistent.

Hope this helps

Sounds like the Protege would work well for you. Most people say "Wow, this is even smaller than I thought it would be!"

For throat hit you can also add a few drops of Everclear or 100 proof vodka, and that also slightly reduces the nic strength. It will thin out the liquid though, so watch out it doesn't become too runny.

i won't repeat what's said, but yes. i use 5v and can barely stand 3.7v now. it really is a night and day difference with the way the inhale feels when using higher voltage.

it's bliss ;)

however, i do love my Protege at 3.7v as well, but mainly with tobacco flavors, as they still give a good throat hit in my opinion. custom lower nic flavors to me are very rich at 5v but very muted at 3.7v now.
