mechs have been around a lot longer then the latest subohm fad - cost? up until recently there werent too many cheap mechs lol

They weren't as popular then as they are now, that's the point, though the likes of smok has been making cheap mechs for a while. Several factors led to their explosion of popularity. For other uses they aren't very good.

^ explains how mechanical mods are better for quad coils. An advantage I didn't realize when making mechanical mods seem pointless. Better for sub-ohms too.
