Different Batteries at Same Voltage Producing Different Results

The generic eGo twist battery that came with my kit is performing much better than the SmokTech eGo twist I bought yesterday from my local vape shop. Does anyone know why this is happening?

The generic one produces a hotter vape and more vapor. I suspected that one of the batteries was putting out more or less than 4.8V so I bought a volometer. Turns out both batteries are right at 4.8V.

I really want to get this SmokTech battery firing the same as the generic one. Any advice appreciated.

Well, first of all you cannot get a true reading off these batteries with a standard meter. They are 33 Hz PWM output and a standard meter doesn't sample correctly to read them. Meter then a half dozen times and your could get a half dozen different readings.

As to what's going on: Did you do a full charge on the new battery? Is there any liquid on the 510 connector?

I did not do a full charge when I first got the battery. When it did run out yesterday I charged it fully. When it charges, the light on the charge constantly blinks red and green. The battery did not come with its own charger so I am using the one I use to charge the generic eGo twist I have. Is all this normal?

They will both put out 4.8V with no atty (load) on them, but the voltage can drop under load (with a atty on them) and I suspect that's what is happening. Voltage drop under load will increase as the battery discharges and get noticeable when the batteries are almost empty. Fully charge both and compare them then.

What atty resistance are you using?

I don't know the SmokTech eGo, I have a Joye Twist and a Vision Spinner VV. The light stays one color throughout on the Joye. It flickers a bit on the Spinner during charge, but does not 'blink constantly'. I use the eGo charger I got from Joye for both.

IMO, if your battery charges and does not get warm during charge all is well. If it ever gets warm, something's wrong and you should stop charging immediately.

Are your batteries both the same mAh ?
As Ryedan pointed out the voltage you are seeing is at rest. Once you factor in the (often dramatic) voltage drop for a battery under load then a difference of a few mAh can alter the vape.
I have tested my Kanger Evod VV on a simple voltmeter which has shown an output of 4.8v. Lovely vape on a 2ohm dual coil tank....The same setting on my ProVari will burn like mad.

Define "generic eGo twist."

If it came with one of those stubby USB to eGo adapters - most of them actually aren't a proper charger - that could be a problem.

A proper eGo charger dongle will have a ratings plate on the back of it that will read:

Input: DC 5 volts, 500 mA
Output: DC 4.2 volts, 420 mA

Is that what you have?

It does say that on the back of all my USB chargers. This is good to know, thanks!

You bring up a good point. I think I may have bought it when it was only partially charged, which means a lower voltage output. The SmokTech battery seems to be improving after a couple full charge cycles.

I am using an Aerotank with a 2 ohm coil btw and both batteries have different mAhs but I couldn't tell you what they are because I do not know.

2 ohms is a good resistance for these batteries. I was thinking you might be lower than that and that could be giving you issues. You're doing everything right. There's nothing more you can do to get the SmokTech battery putting out more power so it's good to hear it's getting better. Good luck with it.
