Hi all, I'm new to the vaping world. I just bought 2 sets of vivi nova and swapped the wick out for a 1.8 ohms wick and coil. When I attached it to the provari mini and checked for ohms, it reads 2.4 instead of 1.8 ohms but when I attached it to the evic, it reads 2.2. Is this normal for the resistance to vary with different mods or is there something wrong with my vivi? Any advise will be helpful, thanks.

Most factory made coils can vary +/- 0.2 ohms. I suspect that most APV ohm meters can also vary by the same amount.

So, you could feasibly get the readings you saw.

Dirty electrical contacts can affect readings also. Try cleaning them on the APV and coil with some 90% Isopropal alcohol and test again.

I agree. Compare your readings after loosening and re-tightening the atomizer. There will be different readings even with an ohmmeter if the leads aren't making good contact. One of the big problems with a separate ohmmeter is the lead resistance at the meter contacts. The contacts on an atomizer also need to be "wiped" with a left-right turn here and there. You can sometimes tell a difference in the vape when you do that.

An ohmmeter reads resistance as a comparison of shorted lead voltage compared to voltage through the resistance being checked. Even a resistive battery connection in the meter can cause variances that change with vibration. In an ecig, an iffy battery contact can create reading variances from the device.

Short answer is yes. Different mods are more accurate than others.
I'd trust the provari.
For the vivi nova heads, the 1.8 and the 2.4 ohm heads are known to differ from their stated ohm resistance but the 2.8 is usually very close (within .3 ohm)
A little advice I can give regarding the vivi is to start out with a lower voltage and work your way up or else you'll burn it. (i.e. for a 1.8 ohm start out at about 3 volts)

Also look into rewicking the heads, it gives a much better vape all around especially with cotton yarn from my experience.

Thanks Steve, Dave and Doogietony - I was running this at 4.0 volts, no wonder it felt a little burnt and warmer than usual. Will clean them and bring down the voltage.

I picture a person on an assembly line with a piece part target trying to make it every day. They wrap 6 turns and toss it into a bucket. Maybe they have a test jig with a couple of contacts to press it against before throwing it into the bucket. In America we have a saying, "Close enough for horseshoes". I don't know what it is in China. :)

Don't forget that the main thing causing the the difference is the "break-in" time or whatever you want to call it on most atomizers....for example I'm strictly a carto tank guy, but last night I put a "LR 1.7" dual coil carto in, and it started out at 1.3 and now is at 1.6...single coils are the same, but in my experience, they tend to go down about .3 -.4 first then maybe back up .1-.2...
