Saw an ad on USAtoday website for starter-kit and pay for shipping only. I've been curious about e-cigs so I made the order. Shipping was $7.
Received within a few days and when it came, I charged the battery. Once it was ready, I attached the atomizer and put on a cartridge. Went by the manual and the cig seemed ok. Not a lot of vapor, but it was ok. That cartridge lasted about 6 drags....plenty of time between those 6 too. Put on another cartridge....about the same result. Went for a 3rd. It lasted over 1 day! The 4th and 5th cartridges acted about the same as the first 2 did. That particular 5-pk of cartridges was enclosed in cellophane which came apart very easily. I didn't think much about it at time, but getting into the second cellophane pack required a scissors. The 6th cartridge from that 2nd pack did ok as is the 7th. I'm wondering: could that weak cellophane package on the first 5-pk have dried-out the cartridges?? The 3rd that worked was in the middle between the other 4. Anything I can do to reactivate the 4 that didn't work too well?

Anyway, those that worked seem ok, but I'm not all that impressed. One cartridge is supposedly equal to one pack of cigs....maybe so.

I'm unsure about the Direct E-Cig. Well the price was right anyway.

I guess a free starter kit might have been a good way to introduce you to vaping, but as I'm sure almost any other member here will tell you, you need to be moving up to higher quality e-cigs or you probably won't be happy and may ditch vaping altogether.

I highly recommend, as many here do, a Joye 510 starter kit, which many of the vendor suppliers here sell for very affordable rates. 510 is the only e-cig I have a lot of experience with, and I'm sure many other people will recommend a KR808 (a very easy to use cigarette-like device) or DSE-901 (a larger penstyle device that as far as I know produces better flavor but less vapor than a 510), or any number of other respected products discussed on these forums.

Personally, I highly recommend the Joye 510. IMO, the flavor is pretty good, and the vapor and throat hit (depending on juice used obviously) is fantastic. I recommend using cartomizers (cartridge and atomizer is one piece instead of two), because they are cheap, smaller than the two piece setup, very easily refillable, deliver a far more consistent vaping experience (in my experience anyway), and seem to last a long time for their price.

Also, if you're ok with it not looking like a cigarette, I'd highly recommend a battery mod like the hello 016, ego, etc. They will produce better vapor and last days instead of hours. Also, if you put a low resistance cartomizer or atomizer on one of these mods, you can replicate vaping with a higher voltage mod, and get much more vapor.

Good accessories to invest in are a PCC (personal charging case) which is similar in shape to a pack of cigarettes and will carry 1-2 batteries and 3-5 cartridges/atomizers/cartomizers (depending on which model you get) for convenient vaping-on-the-go, or a good USB passthrough if you plan on vaping at home a lot. With a direct USB passthrough (not the one with the in-line battery), you can actually volt at 5v and get massive amounts of vapor and throat hit, and not have to worry about charging a battery as it just stays plugged in.

There are a number of great vendors supported here, but ones that I have used and had great experiences with are Cignot, Altsmoke, and Madvapes, and all of them have great prices on most of this stuff, and usually charge between $30-50 for a 510 starter kit, depending on options and accessories included. They also have good shipping rates and lightning fast shipping, and I believe offer free shipping on orders over a certain dollar amount.

Sorry to throw all that info at you, but I just don't want to see you leave vaping behind due to not having the right equipment.

Thanks davy. I appreciate the info.

Until yesterday I never thought about looking for a forum about electronic cigs.

About 25yrs ago there was a brand called Advantage. Similar to e-cigs, but no visible vapor emitted. Regular looking plastic cigarette tube with nicotine in the filtered-end. These were great for quitting smoking altogether. FDA came along and decided these were a drug-delivery system and banned them! I wonder if the FDA is lurking around electronic cigs. I've not seen any of these for sale locally.

Are any of the e-cig brands/supplies NOT from China? I'm not a fan of any products from China....

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

All atomizers are made in China - none at all anywhere else although many many of battery mods are 'home grown' or made in europe (some nice ones too). There's really nothing wrong with Chinese made atties although some people prefer not to buy juice that originates in China - tahts ok there are plenty of American juice suppliers that don't use Deakng (chiense) base liquids (although some DO, and its often hard to know which ones).
Also pretty much everything in your house has at least one componenet if not all of them, made in China, and you probably aren't even aware of it (and just because a company comes from your own country doesn't make it safer btw lol) - just something to think about :)
And yes - the FDA wants these off the market (they work, they take cash away from the BP companies who sell useless but expenseive quitting devices, and these guys fund the FDA) but they have so far at least been thwarted by the US courts although an appeal is in progress.

Just went to there web site. Send it back ASAP. I read there fine print and they are going to charge you over $60 a month for 30 cartridges per month. Find another vendor and buy your e- cig and sonme juice and fill your own carts.
Yep. There is no such thing as a free e-cig. Unless it comes from the good people of PIF here on ECF. And plus... A free "trial" means just that. Free until the trial period is over and then they've got you by the you know what.

I'm gonna go with those who suggested the 510, or the eGo which IS a 510 but with a much better battery. Life In hours would be approx. 12-24 hours depending on how heavy you vape. I don't own one but I have several bigger battery mods like the Chuck and the Screwdriver. There's just a crap load of difference between the stock 510s and 901s in terms of vapor production, flavor, throat hit and design. Just no comparison. Good luck with everything! And btw- you can refill those cartriges if you have some Juice. All is not lost :)

I did not order from their website. The ad on usatoday was from smokelessdirect dot com. I'll certainly look into that automatic order though just to be sure.

As to products made in China: do not want any food-type products from there. I fully realize the way it is these days in manufacturing. I'll hunt for the best deal I can find on the eGo or 510 and go from there.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the advice.

There are many e-liquid manufacturers in the US. My favorite is tastyvapor.us.

I also started with one of the rip-off e-cig websites, then found this forum. Now, I use the Joye eGo, which has an all-day battery life. As for cartridges, you can either fill your own using e-liquid of your choice, use a cartomizer (a combined cartridge/atomizer unit) and/or do what I do: direct dripping.

With direct dripping, you can get something called a drip tip, which has an open end allowing you to put 2-3 drops of e-liquid directly on the atomizer, giving you 10-12 puffs each time. I like it because the flavor is pure, with no aftertaste such as what you can sometimes get from plastic cartridges and fillers.

Good luck,

Did not purchase from direct e-cig website, but I have emailed CS at smokelessdirect to ask. Look at the smokelessdirect site. The ad I responded to is clickable on that page. I find no automatic ordering info there.
Thanks for the help.

On the smokeless direct site or the directe-cig site? As I've said, I did not order from the direct e-cig site. I know that info is on their site and read it, but did not order from there.

Anyway.....I plan to order an starter eGo kit from Altsmoke site. There is a box about entering a coupon for a discount I guess, where might those be? I'm old/poor on fixed-income so need best bang for my limited bucks. The kit has 2-batts/2-atomizers/10-carts/a cone(?) etc. Seems ok, but I wonder about the carts. Doesn't say anything about flavor/etc. Call to ask what's what? I'm going by responders advice, so anything else I should get at the same time? Thanks, I appreciate the help.

I called a few shops in my area. Two carried ecig products, but one was out. The other had the N-Pro and the #7 brand. Any feedback experience on either? Thanks

Since you are on a fixed income, you should be aware that many sites use what can best be described as "bait and switch" tactics. They bait you with a seemingly low price up front, then you end up paying rip-off prices on low quality prefilled cartridges.

If you invest in a high quality Joye eGo kit or 510, and get empty cartridges or drip tip, you can buy your own e-liquid and end up paying a fraction of the cost.

I saw a really good price at the BigBoxStore at $35.71 for a dual kit, plus shipping. They do come with 5 prefilled cartridges, though I must admit that the cartridges they come with contain really lousy flavor.

I would get a kit, then empty cartridges and e-liquid from TastyVapor.us or one of a multitude of other liquid suppliers. Then, it will last and last and last without any significant outlay, especially when you consider how much you may have previously spent on tobacco cigarettes.

Dave are you in Houston? You wouldn't happen to be the guy I ran into at Los Cucos near Tomball would you?

Go with the eGo, you won't go wrong...battery last all day, you can refill those atomizers yourself at a fraction of the cost and when you find a flavor or two that you really like you can buy a big bottle that will last you well over a month for less than the price for a carton of smokes..., they work great
