Whatever you do, don't give up! Keep trying different things and find the one you hate the least. Stick with it and you will start to like it, and just as everyone on this site promises you will eventually love it. I smoked 1.5 packs a day for over 30 years and it only took me a week to completely get off analogs.

Good luck.

This is pretty much the mind set I went into vaping with. I ordered ECOpure Fresh because the huge variety of flavors available was overwhelming. I decided since my taste buds are shot anyway that I'd start with something that is essentially tasteless and try different flavors later. I honestly don't find myself missing the taste of analogs and quite like the clean flavor of ECOpure.

I smoked 2-2 1/2 packs a day of Marlboro lights for 25 years. I decided to try the e-cig because my son has been nagging me to quit for awhile now. Honestly my thoughts didn't coincide with his at first, I just wanted to be able to smoke where I couldn't smoke anymore. I chose the VK from V4L because it seemed like the most convenient and people had nothing but good things to say about them on here.

I bought menthol (18mg) only because I could at least imagine what it might taste like. I didn't want to be stuck with a bunch of flavors I didn't like. Plus, I read a lot of posts on here and I didn't see where anyone had discovered an exact replication of a cig, so I didn't expect the vaping experience to feel like smoking a real cig. I was never a menthol smoker, but as soon as I put that cart on and had those first couple of hits I thought well heck this tastes much better than a real cig, maybe I'll really try to quit. The rest is history....so far so good!

After about 2 weeks I could smell and taste again and for the most part I haven't found a cart I've hated yet. They're a couple I can do without. Menthol, mint, and smilin' menthol are my favorites. Out of the 'tobacco' flavors on V4L Parliament is the best IMO. Go into this thinking that no it's not going to taste like a cigarette, it's going to taste better than a cigarette...trust me eventually it will and you won't even like the taste and smell of a real cig. I tried smoking a cig a couple of days ago and it was just downright nasty, about three hits and I was done! I can 'smoke' in my house and car again too; I haven't done that in 13 years :) Good luck to you I hope you find one to your liking.

PS I also just ordered my first mod, the Prodigy V2 and I can't wait to get it;)

I want to thank everyone for your replies. Hearing all your stories has made me realize that I can do this. I have ordered 555 in a stronger nic level and am looking forward to "defeating the beast". I was a little disappointed that V4L seems to be out of vanilla at this time as I was hoping to try cutting some of the sweeter flavors I now have (yeah, I know vanilla is still sweet nut I've always been kinda partial to vanilla flavors). I also know other sites have vanilla but the shipping costs are a killer for small orders. Maybe next order. Vape on.

Thought I'd give a quick update and hope for more great advice from the forum since I am still struggling somewhat. I will not give up because I believe vaping is my lifesaver.
I ordered and recieved 555 and VG coffee from V$L in high nic level and recieved it Thurs. (the waiting time kills me). Yesterday I only had 6 analogs and am proud of the accomplishment. The flavor thing is still driving me crazy. The 555 that I got I now find does not appeal to me as much as it did. I am now craving the slightly sweeter flavors. For some reason I have been craving(?) vanilla and I've never even tried it yet vaping (tried to order withh 555 but they were out. So I bought some vanilla in the Wilton's section at WallWorld and dripped some into a 555 cart. Makes the cart more appealinng but still seems harsh on the throat (that is what bothered me with the 555 when I recieved it). I like the VG coffee but the VG is though to work with when refilling cart because of the thickness and the flavor seems to vary (taste doesn't seem to be consistant form hit to hit). Maybe it's just me. Anyway the VG coffee almost seems to have more vanilla flavor than coffee (probably just the VG but I'm too new to this to no for sure. I have grown partial to the cinnamon roll that I ordered originall but I only have it in low nic so I have to supplement. I tried to order mass samples from V4L but they said breaking uo that many cart 5 packs would be not good for them and I understand. I think the guys at V4L are greatand I appreciate their service and policies. Anyway, I'm still struggling but I know I've made the right choice and won't give up.

From what I've read here there is some debate about vanillin and vanilla (flavoring vs natural) and whether vanilin is 'safe' or not - there's more info I think on the health part of the forums that you can look into. it won't affect your vaporizer either way though.
Remember you don't have to buy carts pre-filled you can buy the sample bottles (many of the suppliers here do them, some do not) and 'top up' an empty cart with them.
ECF Approved Suppliers - E-Cigarette Forum Long list there of places that do juices (and hardware for some) and LOT of reviews on juices in the ..E-liquid review forums! I've found a bunch there from recommendations, inc my current go-to the Butter Rum from tasty vapor (he doesn't do sample sizes btw).
Know this: your tastes are going to change.
Good luck to you :)

Getting your "taste" down is hard in the beginning. This is definitely one of those times where you'll want to find someone with sample packs of flavors so you can determine what you like and then retry them in a month or so to see if your tastes have changed.

To replicate analog menthol, I mixed RY2 and Cigar with menthol and menthol flavor crystals.

That was good for about a month and a half, and I went nuts for cream and chocolate. Dekang, changed their formulas when they came out with higher nic juice, and all of a sudden I couldn't vape the chocolate.

Tried vanilla, coconut, chocolate cream and kiwi. Started to hate RY2 and Cigar.

Today, my standard vape is double mint, and I alternate that with cream. (Although I sometimes mix Capella Vanilla Custard, Dekang vanilla and coconut in the cream.)

Was not impressed with the Wilton vanilla. It tasted horrible. There is a long thread on the taste of vanilla started by Sun, search for "holy grail vanilla" and it should pop up.

E-juice taste is not only totally subjective, your perception of the taste can change depending on nic strength and the device you're using.

Some heavy smokers have said they were satisfied with low strength juice, while I had to go up to 24mg for all day and 36mg for the time when it was hard time staying off analogs.

What I'm trying to say, in my really long winded way, is ... play around with different flavors and strengths, until you find something that works for you. I think a lot of us have bottles of flavors, which we won't touch, except for emergencies.

VG will cut the harshness - make sure it's labeled USP Glycerine and not Vegetable Glycerine.

While it only took me a week to get off analogs, it took months to tweak the flavor and strengths, so that the cravings did not overwhelm me.

Good luck!

Since I could not find anything that tasted the same as tobacco I instead found something that would satisfy my tastes... butterscotch. Now that some of my taste has returned I'm actually starting to realize that some of the first flavors I tried do taste different now so have to "start over" with my taste analysis. Thankfully, V4L has sampler packs which make it easier.

Smoked 35+ years, 1 to 1-1/2 packs a day, and couldn't quit analogs immediately. I still have cravings at times but can get through them in pretty good shape. Even if it takes you a month or longer to transition to an e-cig I highly recommend it. You can smell, taste, breathe, etc. so much better and easier.

Hang in there!!

Thanks Critterbuddy (et al). I'm trying not to make a nuisance of myself in here but just to hear the advice and support from you guys really mean a lot. It's helping me get through this transition period because it's really frustrating when what I loved yesterday kinda sucks today. Just knoing that others have made it through to the "other side"is great news and I can't hear it enough. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll second the recommendation for the butterscotch cartos from V4L - they are very, very good. Espresso, banana, and cafe mocha frappaccino are also excellent. I don't use the VG as a rule. I like the regular PG cartos because the taste feels stronger and cleaner - but the VG's apparently produce more vapor.
