Wow...
That's interesting. I was just in Dubai a few months ago. I took my Dura-C with me for the flight over and back but ended up using it in the hotel as well. The reason I mention this is because the hotel bar (Sheraton, Dubai Creek) sells disposables from behind the counter. I didn't hear anything but positive feedback about e-cigs the entire time I was there.

I added my comments too. It certainly appears that we are against a huge propaganda machine all over the world. I am really beginning to lose all faith in government, news outlets, special interest groups, and mankind.

Although I never had faith in special interest groups. And mankind for not waking up and seeing what is happening to civilization's future. Pigs at a trough. That's what the American people have become. It's sick.

P.S. Sorry about the rant. And I know it was sort of off topic. But the media here in America is turning into the propaganda filled media of other countries that we used to laugh at for being so ridiculous.

No you have hit the nail on the head... The Propaganda Train is full speed and about to damn near run off the tracks someone needs to put a halt to all of it.

"jasond" made some very important points - so right on I had to laugh at the ignorance spewed in the article.

Does anyone know when the Ruyan study results are due?

The whole issue of the manufacturers FIRST proving there are no harmful products is quite easy. The results can be bought.

So we have the New Zealand study, Totally Wicked, and probably more, but waiting on Ruyan. All will show vaping to be not harmful (even if it is).

Where can we find an independent lab with no bias? If the FDA initiates lab testing, they too can buy favorable results, no?

Three types of lies"
1) Lies
2) Dam* lies
3) Statistics

I have been a (very) long time lurker on the forum........Hello everyone! Your names are so familiar to me you almost feel like friends...:)

I haven't felt driven to comment on anything yet, as I feel a) you all seem so much smarter than me! and b) nothing seemed to affect me too directly.

BUT this article stems from my part of the world (I'm a British ex-pat) and I am absolutely horrified. How anyone can print such a load of rubbish is beyond me.

I know a few people in this part of the world who have stopped using tobacco completely thanks to ecigs (I personally have cut down a lot).

Please everybody, take a few moments to add your comments to this pathetic attempt at journalism.
Thank you.......

This kind of fits what I'm seeing as an Arab agenda on this. Hate to use that phrase, but it seems to apply. There is nothing in that misinformation that suggests what's behind the anti e-cig movement there. But they clearly do not want e-cigs. Money? Who knows. It's a terrible piece and the comments will probably never be translated to Arabic so those who read the original piece can see how wrong it was and is.

When government basically controls the press, directly or through undue influence, this is the result.

Tropical Bob, the piece was translated from Arabic apparently. Maybe a LOT got lost in the translation!

The only reason I can think of for such rubbish is that the doctor's brother or cousin or.... is involved with the company who imports cigarettes here. Don't think the tax is an issue, although it has been rumoured that cigarette tax is due to rise hugely. At the moment they're dirt cheap.

I've just received an email asking for my contact number from Al Arabiya, so hopefully I can make a tiny bit of difference. I'll put them in touch with a medical doctor friend of mine who made the total switch 6 months ago after extensive research on ecigs.

Thank you all for your comments on the piece. Keep them going! :)

I spent years in the Middle East and the UAE does not have a free media. Individual sheikhs and business owners can also be very powerful - it is quite likely that those with a business interest in tobacco have instigated the story.

Following the story I contact the WHO to check their position and they said:

"The position of the World Health Organization is that studies are necessary to determine whether electronic cigarettes are safer than cigarettes."

Which is a bit different from:

"...the World Health Organization (WHO) warned they pose more dangers than regular smokes."

I posted a comment. Please be civil and objective or they will think we're the ......!

Tell them about your cough that is no longer there, tell them there's no second-hand smoke, tell them that everything smells better, tell them there is no fire to burn anyone, tell them about your shortness-of-breath that is better, tell them you are more active and feel better, etc.

Here's what I said:
"Douglas Bettcher, Coordinator of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, said the liquid inside the cigarette could be toxic and denied that it is a successful way to quit smoking. "

This is no way to bash the e-cig.

Each component of the liquid is FDA approved and non-carcinogenic. This, my friends, is a fact.

I didn't switch to the e-cig to quit smoking. I switched to a safer alternative because I have this addiction to nicotine. I no longer have a smoker's cough, I feel better, I'm not short of breath as I was on regular cigarettes, my clothes, my hair, and everything around me no longer smells of cigarettes, I have no fear of burning anything because there is no fire, no smelly ash-trays, no second-hand smoke. Yes, SAFER alternative all around.
