That is absolutely the case, and I have experienced it first hand myself. One of the symptoms of dehydration is joint pain and muscle cramps. These symptoms can be eased somewhat by drinking lots of water - at least for me. Aside from pg, vg is also a dehydrating agent - although to a lesser extent. Therefore more water in your juice is always a good idea. Some vendors even sell their liquids in a version that contains 80%vg and 20%DW.

I'd be interested to know if anyone besides myself has experienced joint pain and muscle cramps attributable to vaping and/or dehydration.

Yeah, I've gotten symptoms like that from dehydration. You may need more electrolytes, too. Often, things that cause dehydration also lower electrolyte levels. Bananas can be good for that, especially if you're getting muscle cramps. I've read about people using saline solutions in their bases with pg,vg and distilled water, but I haven't tried this myself. This is more of a localized treatment, but I use saline spray in my nose throughout the day especially when I'm vaping at high watts. It helps reduce irritation in my throat and keeps my nose from getting too dried out.

Any more opinions on DW, does it actually help with hydration/dryness?

I've used tap water, for years, in small batches of DIY. It "smooths" out the vape, hydrates it a bit, thins VG, and reduces chance of burning.

The coils gunk up mostly from the other ingredients. The minerals in the tap water (and I have hard water) are neglegible. However, if I was making anything to store long term or for use by others, I'd use distilled (and sterile) water. Also you might want to use distilled water if you have long-term coils...like some of the "coat-hanger wire" people use with mechs. ;)

Other tips:
You often only need a few drops for a 20 or 30 ml bottle of juice. I guesstimate about 5% in my mixes.
You can make it easily by using the condensation off the lid of a pot of boiling water.
Once you open a gallon of purchased distilled water, you end up risking bacterial growth if you store it for long. Store it in the fridge if you must store it.

Those last two tips are the reason I just use tap water. No diff in coil longevity or performance.

LOL, your body has a natural salinity. You take more in if you are deficient. If you're not deficient, you don't. Simple as that.

If you're talking to me,
I'm aware of natural salinity. My statement stands.
:)

If you're replying to this:
Isn't saline kind of bad for you though? I understand it helps retain water, but it's like increased sodium intake no?

Your answer is only partly correct. Depends on the salinity of the juice and osmosis.
But my statement still stands...no reason to use saline unless you're using a lot of liquid to "wash" a lung or some such. Not applicable to vaping. Not much salt survives the vaporization process anyway as salt is a mineral. So why bother? Besides, we don't vape water, we vape PG/VG with a little water. And PG is hydrophilic as it is.

I have no experience in vaping with saline solution, and would probably avoid it for the same reasons you mentioned. Increasing your sodium intake is only advisable if you have hypotonic or isotonic dehydration.

There's no legitimate reason to add salt. It's a fad IMHO and :2c:

If you mean in vaping, you may be correct. Otherwise, it's a silly statement.

So do you guys buy a whole gallon, and just take a little from there? I read opened distilled water doesn't last that long, something about being exposed...I mean at $1/gallon it's not bad to have drinking water anyway. I trying to get some from condensed water off a lid would be a bit time consuming lol.

Do they sell smaller quantities anywhere? I checked CVS in the baby isle but didn't find any small bottles of DW.

I once bought a batch of top-grade VG with 96% at an unbeatable price, so I do need to add distilled water cuz at that concentrations its more like goo

I would never vape 96% VG - too dirty.
VG must be USP grade, which means it should be at least 99.5% and often (and preferably) 99.7%.

I had once 1 year old DW, and it was fine. If container is clean, there is not food for bacteria.
