Hey all,

I've had my Diver for a few weeks now, I was wondering if any other Diver users found the flavor and throat hit to be very muted? I get plenty of vapor, but it feels light and tasteless. I'm using 32 gauge Kanthal with 2mm silica folded once over. Currently not twisting any non-resistance wire with the Kanthal, but I have some on order. Current coil is 1.5 ohms and I'm running it at around 11 watts on a Nemesis with a smok kick and a tank from IBTanked. I have a grail on order to see if the flavor changes as a dripper.

Any suggestions?

I have the diver. It is a PITA to get it working good. I've had the best luck making a 1.7 Ohm coil with 32g Kanthal A1. As with all rebuildables you have to make sure the wire is nice and snug on the wick. Never had a flavor loss... are you using A1?

Should've mentioned that, I am using A1 Kanthal. I have tried 28 gauge and 32 gauge, the 28 gauge didn't work well at all because the wire was a little larger and made it difficult to get the ceramic cup back out after jamming it in. I haven't had any real problems getting it to work, I don't get a burnt taste or flooding, the flavor just seems weak.

I ordered Silver wire from Stormy's vapor cellar to use NR leads, I was wondering if this may account for my difficulties. Perhaps the extra resistance wire is wasting heat that would otherwise be vaporizing liquid from the wick and I'm drawing more air across the coil with less juice vaporizing?

That's my theory anyway, I'm not an electrician by any means and I haven't been building coils for all that long.

It is recommended to use NR wire. If you learn the twist method of joining the wire you don't have to get an expensive wire joiner. Now that I think about it you may just be right. Without the NR wire you are having the heat spread to the body of the diver and could easily be the reason for the loss of flavor.

Hopefully that's the case. When I first bought it all the reviews said "You don't have to bother using NR wire" so I didn't, but the more I thought about it the more that I began to hope that was the issue. I bought the Grail too just to see if it would change flavor, but also because I wanted the option of using it as a dripper when I'm not feeling 4 ml of the same juice. My NR wire will be here tomorrow or Friday, and I will post my findings to hopefully help somebody else out in the future.

I find that using ready-wire for the Diver, Sophia, Hercules, etc.. is much less time-consuming than wrapping my own, (I'm one of those types who can do it well, but hate it) and less expensive than buying a wire zapper. :) Stormy has them with Kanthal at only $9.99 for 50..

That's exactly what I bought from Stormy. I wrapped some pieces of kanthal together just to see how hard it would be to tie wires together, and I decided that it was too much of a pain when I can just buy 50 for 10 bucks. It's going to be awhile before I go through 50 anyway.

For anyone wondering, the NR wire made all the difference. Tastes much stronger and hits harder now. I also like the grail a lot, I have other drippers, but I liked that I could try juices on the Diver and know exactly what they'd taste like on the Diver before I went and added 4 or 5 mls to a tank. It looks goofy on top of my Nemesis, but who cares.

Awesome! Glad you got it running the way you like. The diver is a great alternative to cartomizers.
