Ok so I vape 0 nic for the flavors.. stopped vaping for about a month when my last battery died but I bought a new one which arrived today! I love 0 nic, means I can just cold turkey vaping whenever I want :)

So my question, when I mix, I used to buy a Flavorless DIY mix juice in PG or VG then I used to add some drops of flavourings to my carts.

I also bought a butterscotch flavour but im running real low on flavorless diy mix juice so I'm wondering, since its 0 nic can I just go buy some Glyercin from chemist and use that with some water + then my flavour?

so for a cart im thinking like

3 drop glycerin
2 drop water
2 or 3 drops butterscotch

would this work? or Do I have to buy the special PG / VG diy mix juice?

also, what IS the difference between the DIY pg / vg mix juice? I bought VG before but I only have a bit left from when I quit before..

cheers for the answers people!

You can absolutely use glycerin, water, and flavoring... but with a catch.

If you buy glycerin, MAKE SURE that it is labeled as "USP" grade. That means it is pure enough for consumption. If it's not labeled USP, don't buy it.

You will want to use DISTILLED water only. You should be able to buy this at the supermarket - people use it for ironing. Tap water is bad for your atty.

Your mix is also too heavy on water. That much water will wreck the vapor production. A mix might look more like this:

80% glycerin/VG (USP grade)
5% distilled water
15% flavor

Here is a very simple calculator you can use. Just plug in 0 for the nic base, and 0 for the desired nic level.
eJuice Recipe Calculator

PG produces more throat hit, but weaker vapor. VG produces more vapor, but less throat hit. It's also quite thick, which is why a bit of water is a good idea in pure VG mixes. VG is also easier to acquire in stores.

hi misstressnomad :)
thanks for the reply

I see, my glycerin bottle says "BP" on the front and I understand that is the food grade for british :)

so IS that "VG DIY Mixing Juice" that I bought before with 0 nic just literally glycerin?

so how many drops do you reckon a 510 cart can take? I can work it out from that. edit: looking at that calc, how many ML is a cart?

I see, so if I use a VG base I will need more of my flavouring and will get more vapour, but if I got a PG base I will need less flavouring but get less vapour?

thanks,

you wont need to use more flavoring with the VG base, and u will get the maximum vapour and the vg has a little sweetness to it,,with the PG base you will have to use a little more flavoring and get less vapor......why not try this -------> use a mixture of PG and VG juice that way you will make the pg thinner and get more vapor from the vg say like 70 PG and 30 VG or even go up to a 50/50 blend ...i think u will like it. I hope this helps

Regards,
Old Coot

PS: a 510 cart should take between 8-10 drops

Ah, yes. Forgot to look at your location. :)

VG stands for vegetable glycerin, but not all glycerin is derived from plants, and it doesn't need to be to be safe. People generically use "VG" because it's shorter and simpler, but it's not necessarily a problem if it's not plant-derived.

It varies from cart to cart, and I've just acquired some 510 stuff, so I'm still getting familiar with it. I'm getting 6-10 drops with standard polyfill, roughly.

Yes, VG will wash out the flavor a little. But PG's main contribution for juice is throat hit. And if you just vape for flavor at this point, that probably doesn't matter to you. PG is also harder to get a hold of in stores. You could buy it online pretty easily, though.

I see. I mainly buy for the flavours and I dont want to wait for an online order of PG juice so I'll stick to VG for vapour :) one question you two didnt answer is the question of if the DIY juice with 0 nic is the same as buying VG?

going to get the calc to give me 8-10 drops now, thanks for the help! hope I can get some nice flavour outta this :D

edit: 0.4 ml = 8 drops on the calc

so Im getting:

5 drops VG (no nic)
1 drop water
2 drops flavouring

sound good? :D

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. Do you mean the flavoring?

When you buy flavoring that is advertised as such, it's just pure flavoring. It's waaayyy too strong to vape straight.

If you buy VG, labeled for use in DIY juice, from an e-cig website or something, it's just pure VG, like what you can buy in stores.

If you buy something like the juice doubler that Tasty Vapor has, it is basically 0-nic juice. Most people use it for cutting the nic levels of their juice, without losing flavor. But you can certainly vape it straight.
