DIY liquid help

Hi forum,

I am a new member, and the reason I came here today was to ask a very important question. I have been doing DIY liquids for some time now, and I use a VG base with lorann flavorings (which are PG based) and use a nicotine that is 50/50 pg/vg. When I mix my flavors, It seems like no matter how much lorann flavorings I use, I never can really taste the flavors like the e liquid I buy from the store. I have mixed up to 35% flavorings only to get a faint taste. How can I make my flavors strong? Would switching to a 50/50 PG/VG mix for the base be the solution? Could it be the quality of e-cig I use? (I use just the low end ego model e-cigs) Any tips would be much appreciated.

If anyone has used lorann and not been satisfied, what do you use now? I love loranns variety of flavors but I cant seem to taste them like I want to!

PS I normally use a 20 percent flavors in my recipes.

EDIT: I use the lorann extra strength flavors, they claim to be 3-4 times stronger than the average supermarket flavorings.

Thanks,
AnthonyF

need a calculator :) it is your best diy friend
DIY E-Liquid
play with it for a while to get a good feel for it
plug in your nic with the pg/vg level it has
plug in your desired nic level
plug in your flavors to match a total flavor % i'd say aim for 10% flavoring (as funny as it sounds there is a thing as over flavoring and this is a case of less is more...took me awhile to grasp that concept)
plug in your desired pg/vg %

once you're an active member feel free to post in the DIY E-Liquid but for now there are a lot of helpful posts there to read through and learn from.

I'm going to guess either you are using too much flavoring or too much pg/vg (don't forget that the nic already has pg/vg in it and you'll need to adjust your end % accordingly...that was my first diy mistakes)

After you have 5 posts, you should really post in the DIY section. That's where the experts are.

Trying to duplicate simple flavorings, I'm doubtful that e-liquid suppliers use just one flavor. They may mix a couple flavorings, even add some sweetner.

I'm not familiar with lorann flavorings, but I'm sure many in the DIY section will be able to help.

After you have the required 5 posts, I can move this or you can repost in the DIY section.

Thanks everyone for your helpful posts. I do use calculators all the time to help me with my nicotine usage since I use 100mg/ml liquid. Very dangerous stuff! I will try the 10 percent flavor/90 percent base to see if this helps. (this one will be nicotine free just for testing purposes, I don't want to get out all my equipment for handling nicotine for just one small test!)

What flavor are you trying to make?

I am trying to make Cherry, Watermelon, bubblegum, Cotton candy, pineapple, and coffee. I use just one flavor per batch.

Possibly a couple drops of sweetner will help bring out the flavor. Not too much, after a couple days it gets much sweetner. All liquid needs to steep a bit. I make pineapple all the time- never used Lorann- use VZ super concentrated which is pretty good. You might like the Lorann once you get the right concentration.

If you don't have sweetner, try a drop of the cotton candy. Start out small, like 5 ml.

Sorry for this question, but what sweetner do you mean? like splenda?

Hi Anthony.....Like ethyl-maltol(usually in crystal form), or any variant of liquid based sweetener. Which can be purchased at many e-liquid diy shops. I agree that most liquids (that I enjoy) require some form of sweetener...... store bought sweeteners(like splenda/steevia) usually cause a very funky taste and do not sweeten the liquid nearly as well.

I will look for ethyl-maltol, but first I will try using some cotton candy flavoring mixed in with another flavor. Thanks all for the help, any more tips will be much appreciated!

Edit: just bought 80 grams of pure ethyl maltol for 9.99, I read you should mix 1.25 grams per 10ml of liquid. does this sound right? thanks!
