DIY mixing

I'm pretty sure I totally misunderstood the concept of when people talk about using a mixture of 60/40, 70/30 etc. I received my kit this past weekend, and I havent been overly thrilled with anything I've produced. I got 48mg nicotine (to cut to 18mg) in VG.. and I got the other as 100% PG.. in my head for some reason I was thinking oh ok that'd be like doing it 50/50. So for all the DIYers what's been the best way to mix your liquids? Is it better to get the dilution base as PG or VG? The e-liquid blend should I be getting it as 100% VG? 100% PG? or 50/50? TH is pretty important to me as I atleast want what feels like a good inhale from an analog, but I'd also like a semi decent amount of vapor, otherwise I feel I'm not doing it right lol

I use only PG base nic. Why all PG? Because it is thinner and easier to measure. The last thing I want to make a mistake with is the nic.

So, you are not adding any flavor? That is why you are worried about PG/VG ratios over everything else? The PG/VG ratio will make things taste better?

If you need TH the most, why go over 30%VG? Or even get that close. 10 or 20 will up the vapor quite a bit over plain PG mixes.

Might want to calibrate your mixing tools. I find many folks discount what the various viscosity liquid mean to actual measurements. If you are using glass pipettes or syringes, then you are probably fine, but anything else should be double checked.

There are nearly as many calculators as Carter has liver pills, so just look for one that does what you want it to do and go with it.

Have you tried any of the recipes http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-liquid-recipes/ on here?

May want to post on http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/ here. You have twice as many posts as you need to join in on other sections of the forum.

I am using flavoring.. but it seems with my mixture I'm not getting much vapor, and no kind of TH what so ever. I did use a calc when making it.

This part right here is what I'm talking about as far as where I think I misunderstand with the mixing. so basically to get 70/30 pg/vg where it lists the amount for non-nicotine liquid amount, say that is says 2.55ml should i do (roughly) 1.8ml pg and .75 vg to arrive at the 70/30 and then have whatever amount it is as my nicotine? or do i need to contribute the amount of VG in the nicotine blend to the overall balance of 70/30?

The VG in the nic blend is part of the ratio. For example, I like 80 PG/ 20 VG and vape 24mg/ml nic. Starting with 48 mg/ml PG base nic liquid and using 20% flavoring for 10 ml of juice I use

5 ml of base liquid (PG)
2 ml of flavorings (I assume flavorings are PG base unless specified as VG by the vendor)
2 ml VG
1 ml PG

I followed other folks advice to get a nic base that is the same as the highest level component in my desired final ratio (PG in my case.) The more you dilute your nic, the more variation you can have in the final ratio, but starting at 48 and going to 18, you can only add so much PG. I think the lowest percentage of VG you can get is 37.5% (did that real quick so don't hold me to it.) For more throat hit you could try adding PGA (pure grain alcohol) or vodka.

I'm hardly an expert so as someone else recommended, check out the DIY forum.

This is what it means.

(That is not how I do it as I do not worry about the final ratio that much. I concern myself with nic level and flavoring percentage and the final PG/VG ratio is not important enough to worry about.)

Thank you! That could be why I'm having such a problem. My next nic bottle I order is def gonna be PG based.. it seems like I'd get the results I'd like a bit more that way.

I really wish there was a calculator that did the computing for you with the whole ratios instead of them just listing how much nic liquid to use and how much non nic liquid to use.
