My question is multipart I guess you could say :). I've been attempting to cut my own liquid (36mg flavorless) with NOW brand VG. Most has been So/So. Please note i'm using Scubabatdan's calculator which is awesome! Most of my mixes have been 50/50's with (LorAnnes) flavoring, and do 4ml or 6ml mixes. So my questions are these:

#1 Flavoring- I'm wanting a smooth flavor, not too strong and not too weak. What % should I use according to Scubabatdan calculator? Or How many drops should I use per "ml" of total liquid. I've killed a few batches by overpowering them too much.

#2 Salvaging overpowered flavors - Whats the best way to do this? Is it even possible? Logically I'd think you'd just add more liquid (36mg cut to 18mg via 50/50), but that doesn't seem to do it. For example I made my own Strawberry liquid using TW DIY unflavored 36mg and added a bit too much LorAnnes and was WAY too sweet. Total was 6ml which is up to about 8ml now as I added 18mg unflavored mixture and still seems too sweet.

#3 Cutting using BOTH VG and PG. Is this even recommended? So far all my mixtures have been cut with VG only which in itself is pretty sweet. I have yet to try PG which I've got some on order and will be here next week. If it is allowed to do mix both in whats the best way to do it as far as use more PG than VG or vice versa? Like say something along the lines of 50%nic, 20%VG, 20%PG, 10% flavor?

Anyhoo Thanks in advance for any help. It's greatly appreciated. Initially I had started vaping on TW Strawberry liquid which to me was pretty smooth and consistent and that's what I'm trying to do for myself. That kind of experience..

I start with 5% and vape test, then normally move up.
I just made a smooth coffee toffee rum vape with
9ml base
15 drops Keoke coffee
10 Drops English toffee
10 drops Butter rum

I usually strat with 1 drop per ml for testing and adjust as needed then make a bigger batch.

Salvaging I would add VG which will subdue the flavor, but you are correct keep adding PG/VG to the mix to dilute it. But VG will subdue the flavor more than PG will.

Yes! I use 20/80 VG/PG as my base and the VG give it a sweeter flavor and better vapor production. I would make base out of PG nic with VG at 20% of the total PG, 5% flavoring to start, as all flavors are different stregnths 5% is a good place to start.

Hey Wakadoo -

What I've found is plain ole' VG and/or PG with flavors (no nicotine liquid) is a great way to test flavors without potentially wasting nicotine e-liquid. Some even suggest to put some flavoring into water, in the same proportions that you would your e-liquid (i.e. 80% water, 20% flavoring), taste it, if it tastes right then it likely vapes right.

Unfortunately there is no good answer for the % of flavoring to use. I find that Lorann Cherry is very very strong, and I can use it quite sparingly. Lorann Caramel on the other hand is a bit more subtle to me. You just have to find out what works for you. I wish I could offer a more precise answer on this, but I don't think there is one.

If you end up making too strong of flavored liquid, and you want to keep the nicotine level consistant, you're doing the right thing by adding more of the pre-cut liquid to the flavored mix, that's the best way to tame the flavor.

VG is also known to dull the flavoring some, but it may add some undesired sweetness. I don't find it overly sweet myself, but some say that they do.

I am trying to mix 54mg and 36 mg of 30 ml. If I add these togeather it would be 90. Then do I multiply by 2 to get the total mg. of 45.What do I do if I want 40 mg.

I know this sounds stupid of me but I just don't get it.

I am trying to find flavoring like lorann in a tobacco flavoring but don't seen to be able to find this. So I am going to add 36mg of Camel to 54mg of unflavored and hope this will work out.

Thanks

You *really* want to check out Dan's Excel Spreadsheet
FilesAnywhere - FileShare Detail View

If you search this forum, there are a few discussions about making tobacco recipes.

Are you intending to vape 40mg? That is quite strong, and not recommended.

Section 4 of the calculator will help you when adding two different mg strengths and quantities together.

Like:
54mg (30ml) + 36mg (30ml) = 45mg (60ml)
54mg (10ml) + 36mg (30ml) = 41mg (40ml)

now take the new mg stregnth and enter it into section 1 and work from there.

Link to V7 of the calculator is in my sig.

Everclear is a 190-proof liquor. It's about as strong as you can get, and you can't get it in all states in the US.

Wikipedia says:
190-proof
It is illegal to sell the 190-proof variety in some states of the United States, namely Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota [3], Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, California, and Kansas.

151-proof
In California, Minnesota, North Dakota and some other states, the 151-proof variety is sold.

I called a local store and they carried the Everclear 190 proof. My husband was going to the store so I asked him to run by the liquor store and pick me up some of this. He looked at me like I was crazy and asked if I was going to become a serious alcoholic. I told him I was going to make tobacco flavoring. He asked me if I was going to kill myself.

He doesn't quite grasp the mixing concept. He said he would pay the extra if I didn't mix it myself. I think I scared him.

Whatever you do, martha1014, don't mix a boiler-maker or a depth-charge. That would use up two shots of perfectly good mixer alcohol! I had to buy a quart at our grocer's, that's the smallest they had. $20, should last me a good while! Unless I get in the mood for a beer and a shot! (PS ~ don't sip those drinks, it tastes really terrible, you have to 'chug' them)
