I just purchased my first set of DIY supplies, I have been doing a lot of reading but still have a few questions --

Is it necessary to add sweetener or is using it a personal preference ?

I heard you can use full grain alcohol to add throat hit, but I haver never really heard how much. I found the ejuice recipe calculator, what % do you recommend for the alcohol?

Sweetener is sweetener which is real handy if something needs sweetening, so just like sugar in coffee, it's a personal thing.

I've heard quite a few folks say that PGA adds TH, but it's never done anything of the sort for me. I just use it for thinning VG and that's until it feels right. How much is really dependent on the VG I'm using so I have no hard-fast-rule on %'s.

For me, sugar is a food group... But I've found I rarely use sweetener and I vape 99% fruit flavors. Start out small, you can always add more if needed. It may also depend on the brand of flavoring. I use mainly TFA and a few FW flavors.

Thanks! I bought a small 50/50 nic mix to start playing around with DIY, but I think I'm just gonna have to add a little more pg. I'm usually a 70p, 30v vapor.

A 70/30 mix should not require any PGA or vodka. Cutting with PG will lower nic level. You did not mention what nic level so if it is higher than you normally vape then cutting with PG will get you a thinner juice and bring the nic level down to where you want it. I am not sure which calculator you have but this one is pretty good and will do nic calcs for you:

Also as stated sweetener is a personal preference. TFA sweetener is sucralose in PG and their cotton candy is Ethyl Malto in PG. Some people (like myself) require some sweetener to make the juice pop. Others so not. For fruit and bakery flavors I like the sucralose and for tobacco flavors the EM. Try the juice you make without it first and if it seems "flat" add some sweetener. I add less than 1% and a little goes a long way.

I bought a 24mg, which is what I normally vape .... So you are right adding more pg will weaken. If I get the hang of DIY I think I am going to buy my nic @ 100mg then cut it with a pg and vg accordingly. Just starting out small purchase til I decide if I like it, etc.
