I want to try DIY juice. I watched Mistress Nomad's video on DIY which was very informative. I'm confused about the unflavored nicotine though. When I went to look at sites where you can buy it, they list the unflavored nicotine in the different strengths but also different VG/PG mixes. I thought you bought a bottle of VG or PG, a bottle of unflavored nicotine, and a bottle of flavoring. I didn't know that the nicotine was also VG or PG based. Is it?

For instance...in Mistress Nomad's video, she used a bottle of unflavored nicotine, a bottle of VG, and a bottle of flavoring. If the unflavored nicotine is already mixed with your selected mix of VG/PG, then why would you use a separate bottle of VG too?

Hi Sell,

Even though the Nic mix is mixed with pg or vg you will still need to cut it down with pg or vg or both to achieve the mg level you are looking to have as a final mix. For instance, say you are buy 60mg mix. That is too strong to vape by itself. So you would need to cut it with pg/vg and flavoring to achieve say 24mg final product.

If you buy unflavored in a 24mg mix then this would not apply if you are trying to achieve 24mg or less in mg. Not the best at explaining this but hope you get the example.

The flavoring is going to account also in your final product. The more flavoring you use, the lower your final mg since you are diluting the mixture.

Hey Selina, I can try to explain, the Nicotine itself is suspended in either VG or PG, sometimes in a mix of both. I might buy 100% VG Nic juice in 100mg/ml strength. Then mix 12% Nic with 68% plain VG and 20% PG and flavoring to make a 12mg/ml nicotine final juice. hope this helps.

Thanks,
Jeff~

P.S.

I use Breaktru's e-Juice me up Calculator to calculate my mixes. It is a pretty cool tool.

Notwithstanding the responses you have received already, although you CAN buy straight unflavored nicotine, you DO NOT want to. There is a really simple reason why, and there has been a thread here already, which I did post in, that plainly illustrates the point. I'm not going to dig for it, but I will give you the gist of it.

Straight nicotine liquid is 1000mg/ml. That is ONE THOUSAND MILLIGRAMS PER MILLILITER. What we vape contains nowhere near that concentration of nictotine. I vape 18mg/ml. The conversation in thread centered around what 100% nicotine is, and why it came with an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), what that MSDS said on it, and the possible consequences of working with 100% pure nicotine liquid.

Such a liquid is meant for large scale eliquid production. You must wear proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to eliminate exposure to the extremely hazardous liquid. Very simply, and brutally, working with straight nicotine liquid can kill you very quickly. It's just the fact. Two or three drops of 1000mg/ml nicotine on your tongue can kill you within a matter of minutes. Absorbed through the skin will take a little bit longer, and inhalation of the vapor is just as deadly.

The nicotine liquid that we purchase for DIY, has already been diluted (cut) to a safer level with liquids that you will be using to mix your juices, namely PG and/or VG. I buy 36mg/ml nic liquid that is 75%PG and 25%VG. I then use PG and VG along with the flavoring to produce 18mg/ml juice that I will vape. I basically cut it in half - 5ml of the 36mg nic liquid and 5ml of the other stuff. Pretty simple, and 36mg/ml of nicotine is a far sight from 1000mg/ml. Most DIY'ers get hinky just working with 100mg/ml, cuz it's pretty dangerous too. And you would need A LOT of other stuff to cut 1000mg/ml nic liquid!
