I'm very new to DIY, I have been reading and watching videos but when I went to order something confused me a bit, I ended up ordering from My Freedom Smokes. I got their unflavored smoke juice but when I was on the ordering screen it asked what PG/VG mix I wanted. What is the best ratio on this?

I went with a 50/50 mix this time and ordered a bottle of VG to go along with it. Should I have also gotten a bottle of PG? When I use the ejuice calcs do I need to specify what my nic juice has in it?

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

There is a bit of math involved in DIY (and I'm not very good at it :( )

More PG will give you a brighter flavor and more throat hit, more VG will mute the flavor and TH but gives more clouds of vapor.

Most vapers like about 80%PG and 20%VG. If you got your nicotine liquid in 50/50, you may want the rest of your liquid to be PG -- that way if you end up mixing half nicotine juice (for example, I don't know what mg you have) and the rest a diluting liquid (plain PG) and flavoring (usually about 10% of the total volume) then you'll end up with 75%pg and 25%vg.

I like this calculator for how much of what to put in:

Thanks for the super fast response!

I ordered the 60mg version of the 50/50 mix, sorry I left that out.

So what I really need to do then is get some PG to mix in instead of the VG that I already ordered. I probably should have asked on the forums first lol :)

The VG will work then until I can get the PG ordered? It will just be less flavorful?

The VG will work fine, you may even prefer it. We are all different and plenty of vapers do prefer more VG. It may end up a bit thick, if it's too thick you can add either distilled water or vodka to thin it out a bit -- just a few drops. If you add water it won't affect the flavor, but if you add vodka you may get back some of the throat hit you miss when using VG bases.

What mg were you hoping to end up with?

The VG is not a total waste, it is fun to vape as it makes huge clouds that are amusing for a while. The taste is kinda soapy though, like a cheap bakery wedding cake and leaves a film on the back of my teeth. At some point you will use it to dilute a horrible flavor so you can use it till your next order of juice comes.

I got my PG and my VG by the pint at my local Pharmacy. I told them exactly what I was using it for and had no problem getting them to order it for me and it was there the next day. Some people say they're using it to make soap or lotion so they don't have to go into explaining what an e-cig is and risk someone who has listened to the FDA's line of bull refusing to order it for them. Good luck with the DIY, it is fun to experiment.

If you are going the DIY route and need VG to mix there is a better place to get it. Amazon.com sells a pint of kosher, medical grade, food grade VG for $8.49. I had ordered my VG from a e-cig online store for $8.95 for 125 ml before finding amazon. It pays to look outside of the e-cig vendors for some of our DIY ingredients.
Also, I use only 100% VG and find if I mix in a larger % of flavor, I get plenty enough taste.
Have fun you will enjoy DIY!

Glycerin - USP Grade -- that's pharmacutical grade (the good stuff) -- is available off the shelf at most drug stores. 6 oz, 177ml about 5 dollars. It will say -- skin protectant, but I have seen several references on ECF that this is the stuff---and the very same as put in food products. Shelf life is 2 years.

Not bad if you don't have Walmart!

However, I really like that we can get what we need all at one place from some of the juice and DIY suppliers---easier, don't have to buy tons & certainly great for starting out. Kudo's to our juice suppliers!
