It is cheaper in the long-term, unless you like super cheap ready-made liquid.

A similar situation is investing in e-cigs; they are more expensive initially because you need hardware, but cheaper in the long run because you only need to replace software.

Here you'll invest in larger amounts of stuff like VG/PG/nicotine and get various flavors which you may end up not liking. However, the main ingredients will last a long time especially once you get your mixes down (up to 2 years easily with proper storage).

DIY is cool in that the flavor range is limitless. It can also be frustrating because you are going to have failures.

Doing both, DIY and Pre-Made, makes sense because you can strengthen pre-made juice using flavorings and sometimes fix DIY juice by blending it with pre-made.

The biggest thing with DIY is to keep Good records of everything you do.

Thanks for the replies all. I figured it would be a little cost up front for supplies, then less after. I'm happy with the pre-made juices, but a penny saved...well you know:D
I wouldn't give up on ready-made juice, just want to try my own and save a few bucks too. So the consensus seems to be it would be cheaper in the long run?
Thanks for the help.

As PV stated the initial outlay can be rather expensive but in the long run far cheaper than commercially bought liquid.

Consistency is what RYO provides. If you take your time and keep accurate notes, duplication and consistency becomes child's play, not to mention being capable of fine tuning your juices to suit your needs

Switched is correct, I wrote a thread a week ago titled " Why is juice so expensive$$$)
I first posted it in the suppliers thread and was wrong to do so but, mad did a bunch of people get on my .... about it, so I moved it to the New post side and I still got a bunch of crap, which I couldn't believe. I have been mixing my own now for about 8-9 months and it's getting very good the batches I'm making, have I screwed up, sure I have.

trick is making very small batches to experiment with, and taking really good notes, becoming familiar with measuring with Syringes and a few other things, and having the right stuff on hand as far as the right purest cleanest Nic I use 100mg from Xtermevaping.com by the way Levy the owner is a great guy, and buy my VG/PG from quality suppliers as well and flavorings from all the flavoring companies, I find flavourart.it the best and The Perfume Apprentice good to, and others have some needed ingredients to.

The original outlay is a bit high but when you compare it to what your paying for juices, dam its cheap.!! I'm making my own great juice for as little as .20 and ML and even up wards to .35 sometimes, you do the math and see what that cost compared to some others, I wont say bad things because there is some good E-liquid out there but the current recipes that are out as well as being able to put your own amount of flavorings into your mix to meet your own taste buds can't be beat IMHO, and I like my flavorings on the high side sometimes, yet sometimes less is more I'm finding with some mixes, you also learn how to make juice so on the inhale you taste one flavor and on the exhale you taste an undertone of another, then your getting good when that happens with some mixes. The desartship at flavourart.it is the best tobacco flavors I have found for you tobacco lovers.

Swithed i seem to be liking and agreeing with you on many things lately buddy.!!

LOL ya I remember that thread...

I thank you for the kind words. I just say it as it is. It does not win popularity contests at times, but does help keep folks honest :)

Retirement provides a great avenue for research. The forums are my support group in helping me deal with my addiction, and in turn if I can help someone else decipher the chaff from the wheat I will do so.

I also spend a lot of time researching the use of the various chemicals in cagarettes and what they do to our bodies. It is not easy, but has provided me with a good crutch towards beating this addiction in the ground. The more I read the more repulsive I become, which leads me to believe that I will never indulge in smoking again.

For folks wanting to roll your own start spending some time on the DIY sub-forum learning and reading the cautions etc... about rolling your own. My source can be found there, please do not PM me or ask for it publicly. I am not trying to be ...., but with impending bans etc... just like any other addict, I am not about to cut off my supply, with large influx across the border.

You will also read where folks will purchase high octane poison (because that is what nicotine is, an insecticide) not knowing what to do with it. I do not wish to be responsible for possible accidents resulting from someone who inadvertently made a mistake while mixing. I have seen many of this and so has Pure Vapor. The good side, many have asked before they proceeded to mix. On the flip side we see folks buying or wanting to buy "pure" nicotine (read 99.9%) and mix there own. This stuff is not to be handled by anyone with the exception of licensed chemist or indivudals certified to deal with these extremely hazardous materials, and have facilities that can handle these products safely.

Edit: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/103320-converting-12mg-juce-18mg-tips.html an example of an honest mistake.
