can you link us to an example of the fishing line or weed wacker material?

Thanks!

I have a spool I got eons ago in 0.080. Most have what I've seen sold now has colors. You need to look for clear/transparent.
I find a lot of 0.065 in clear which should be good. See here

Fuse EACH battery. A fuse in each battery will protect against a battery failure where a malfunctioning battery would cause the good battery to go into amperage runaway

Ah maybe. it will protect the battery from an external short. It will not protect from an internal short.

Ah maybe. it will protect the battery from an external short. It will not protect from an internal short. I think the only mod that has some but still very limited protection from internal shorts is the provari.

As per datasheet The dna 30 will sense a shorted atty or wiring short.
It also has an internal on board temperature sensor and will shut down if the internal board temperature becomes excessive.

On second thought I deleted the second part about the provari but apparently not soon enough. An internal short within the battery can keep on going regardless of whether or not it is shut down. The fuse and heat protection helps but once an internal short starts it likely to keep in going. It is internal to the battery and there is no way to stop it. An internal short is also more likely to occur with two batteries. However I don't remember how much of a difference if any it makes when the batteries are in parallel instead of in series.

Yes a fuse won't help with an internal short of that battery but will protect the other parallel battery. I know, been there recently :D

Again maybe. It depends on how rapidly the battery with the internal short deteriorates and how hot it gets. As in a worst case scenario if the first battery violently vents and burns so will the other battery.

Hey everyone, I've been reading up on DNA 20 mods because I want to get one, don't have the $$ for it, and not enough technical ability to build it. Although I can follow exact directions. Anyway has anyone seen this from vaporjoes.com ???

SHOCK AND AWE: THE CHI-NA 20 (DNA-20 REPLICA) - 30W COMING

Synopsis:

THIS IS AN UPDATE: FROM OUR LAST POST HERE

Just 12 hours hours after breaking the news of China's 22W board we have learned new revelations. The 30 Watt capability is nothing more than a software upgrade to the chip. They make a number of chips but the one im looking at is the DIY 20/25/30 Watt chip that looks pretty great. Its also very customizable to the modders needs.

As these first 30 watt Chinese chips get cloned by other companies the price will become INCREDIBLY low. Also - wattage limits will continue to rise quickly as more and more companies jump on the bandwagon requesting higher limits to have the next sound byte.

It would have been nice if they would have added even a single mounting screw hole.... did no one ever mention this?

I think overal this is probably the single most iritating omission, after the ribbon cable attachement fragility.
Mounting with hot glue is not very much fun, and making a custom mounting craddle is just a total PITA.

Great mod by the way Breakthru :)

Mamu's screen mounting cradle, and a module mounting cradle should be supplied by evolve to ease the suffering.

I am currently hosting a co-op for for the DNA 30. When I first decided to do this co-op I looked at the YiHi offerings. I have been in contact with company for a month now as I wanted to see if they were a viable option. The software upgradeable chip that Joe refers to isnt even available yet. Their current best chip is the SX220, a 22w board that is NOT upgradeable as it has no communication port. They did make a new version of the SX220 that loses the gravity switch, adds terminals for external switches, and has the same ribbon cable and offboard OLED screen that the DNA uses.

They want $28 each for the SX220 for an MOQ of 100+, after expensive Chinese shipping that price works out to be only about 10% cheaper than the DNA30.

Here is their latest "concept" as of 2 days ago. Note it is just an idea, not a reality yet.

I used a firm foam in my latest build to cradle the DNA, it worked out pretty fairly well, I would do it again.
No adhesive required and easy to sculpt.

Sounds good Mike.
In the past I have been able to unsolder and resolder the ribbon cable on the board side but lately I noticed that evolve is also using an electronic tack weld on the ribbon cable at the board side. Removing the cable has led to the board solder traces being damaged. I had success on my first attempt but there after it was a failure. This was my experience, maybe someone else would have better results than I.
