you can use up to ~10k but the resolution will be less. IE: the range of adjustment on a 10k may only be from 2 oclock to 4 oclock where a 1k will give from 12 oclock to 6 oclock, finer range of adjustment, especially with no display this makes it easier to "get to around where you had it before". a 10k will change alot with the slightest movement of the knob/dial. and yeah, that one pictured is the flat one I was talking about but if your not opposed to using a tiny screwdriver there are other really tiny ones too

You guys are awesome and fast. But I still have questions since I haven't ever made a DNA12 mod nor ever used a pot. But the one in the photo from radio shack had way more connections than there are on the DNA20 board (at least that say 'pot') and second, will the pot have a start and stop point to be able to maybe put a little gauge to indicate approx. wattage?

EDIT: will the dna default the 7 an 20 watt stops to the physical stops on the pot, or would there have to be something that I would need to do make sure to take full advantage of the pot range?

has a start and stop, not roundy round. only part of the range will be usable which is why I recommend staying closer to 1k for widest range of usability. most pots only have 3 terminals, that one is like a dual pot really but you will still only need to use 3 legs and 3 connections.

another interesting pot to use is linear if you have the space, just slide up and down like an EQ adjustment

a dial with a pointer or a linear with a scale would both work, but might be a little tricky to determine actual value of positions to start with, and again some of that range won't be usable too. I'd put a fixed 1 ohm coil and then meter it at each progression on the output and do the math to be able to mark an accurate scale to your knob/slider, determine where it starts to rise and where it has risen all it's going to and that's the usable range of motion in your pot, then scale it within that. honestly sometimes just knowing the starting point and end point of adjustment can be enough, the numbers don't matter as much as the taste does tbh, so just a start finish and maybe 1/4 markings should be enough

yeah, even if it had to be paying for it again I'd still rather have the screen personally. I broke one of my displays and thought about doing what you are considering but in the end just bought another. I now use the damaged one for mockup, then take the new one out of the package just to install it after mockup and fabrication is done. it's easier to work with a dna when your not afraid to break it :)

is it normal for them to be out of stock this long? also looking to pick up a few more :)

yeah, been seeing rumors here and there, wonder if it will be ~ the same size, swappable as an upgrade or if it will require a new mod built around it? that's the biggest question to me, well that and when can I have some :) and does that mean the 20 is no more and the 30 replaces it like was the case with the 12 or will it be both still be available as 2 different levels of power?

The DNA 12 is still available.
