Dna20d 510 unit

Hi everyone, I was wondering if it's possible to make a fully contained dna20 unit (including up down fire buttons) without a battery that simply screws on to a mechanical mod via the 510 connection.

If so, how would the wiring be done?

well a mech mod is just a battery switch so it can be done. hard to say how practical it would be, I think it wouldn't be ideal to have the mod fire by the mech button.

um technically yes but i dont think it's very desirable. you could wire the DNA20's fire switch shorted so it fires as soon as it is turned on, then have the mech switch "fire" the whole dna board ... but I dont think that's so great of an idea and I'm not sure if that would be good for the board.

Like an external Kick?

Perhaps you could fire the mech button with your index finger to power up the DNA20D's board, then fire the DNA20D with a thumb button on the device.
Taking care to design the mod not to put too much stress on the 510 connector when pressing both buttons, (yet being able to screw it on, and off the mech).

One thing that would annoy you is that every time you release the mech's button and pressed it again, the DNA would show the start up screen and increase the watts by 0.1.

A kick in a short tube, with male and female 510 connectors on each end could be a lot easier. Obviously no screen though.

I just ordered something from inhaler called the can...its basically what I'm talking about, but this one is dna12, so no screen.
Hopefully i can figure out what's going on under the hood, and apply that to a dna20...

I'm pretty sure it works basically the way I said. Basically a shorted fire and powering the board up automaticlly fires it.
If you think about it that's how kicks etc. work.
I'm just not sure how well this would work with a DNA20 since it does have that startup lag, etc. and you lose the benefit of having the screen on all the time. For example you would would have to be firing the mod to adjust voltage if you use digital adjustment.

Yeah, I can see that, I'm thinking the size of it had something to do with that? It looks to be about the size of an 18350? Put that on an 18650 mod and it would be a big beast!

Yes the size is an issue and I think the price as well.

Yup, the kick basically does this, all you gain here is 2 watts (not insignificant, granted, but still only 2 watts) and external control (also not insignificant). I too thought it was a great idea on its face but once you think it through and look at your options, it's not that compelling!

I agree with you that on a "conventional" mod, this might be too much, but my intended use for a device like this is for a pipe. I guess that a supert kicklet would work (if you can find one) so would the aforementioned can, but I was hoping to do something "different" with this dna20 board I have lying around
On a pipe this would look amazing...all you would need is a slightly shorter stem.

just do a dna20 pipe straight up, you'll be happy you did
