Do all TPA flavors have that chemical/perfumey taste?

I bought from them in the past, and the flavors tastes 'chemically'. I just ordered another batch of new flavors before I checked reviews on them (idk why I did this), and these are supposed to taste perfumey too.

Here's what I ended up getting this time, let me know if any of these will be good

  • DK tobacco Base
  • RY4 Type Flavor
  • Vanilla (Bourbon) Flavor
  • Hazelnut Flavor
  • Green Tea Flavor

Are there any TPA tobacco flavors that don't have that taste? I'm starting to think I will end up un-doing all of the savings I get from DIYing my liquids if I keep up this trial and error.

I think the Vanilla Bourbon and the Hazelnut are good flavors as are several others. With the tobaccos, you will find alot of varying opinions and no general consensus. That applies to any of the flavoring companies as well.

One thing I have learned is the hardest thing to do is wait for the flavors to fully steep to make the best determination on what it tastes like or give that chemically flavor you are mentioning time to meld away as all the ingredients steep together.

There is a very big TPA now known as TFA thread with alot of fans and suggestions. I hope they work out for you :)

PS: Don't give up without trying other flavoring companies for comparison

TPA flavors are really strong (to me at least). What I have found with them is less is better. If it has that strong chemically taste use less and let it steep. It makes a huge difference. Some companies use 15% to start with, with tpa I start with 3-5% and adjust from there. I know when I first started using them I made a batch of I think it was coffee WAY to strong and almost threw up. The flavor scares me now and brings on nightmares (from my own doing at that).

My TPA Tobacco blend was mixed at 2.5% then was steeped for a full 2 weeks but in the end it was nice. I just took a wiff of it and it does not smell too bad at full strength. I never got what you have listed but the TPA Honey wood is so strong perfume that you'll lose the 02 in the room and it needs a mix at 0.50% but still ends up a OK mix after 2 full weeks! Don't give in and mix at low percents and remember you can always add more later and buy pre-mixed juice for while your steeping and learning...Good Luck!
Try capella's strawberry - That will hold you over while your other DIY mixes steep!!!

To be clear, I haven't used any TPA flavors.

However, the chemist in me is thinking that a 'chemical' flavor may come from a solvent in the flavoring. You could try steeping for a while with the cap off - would allow at least some of the possible solvent to evaporate off.

Worth a try, I think. Man, I hate to see all that money wasted!

Can one expect the flavor to be stronger and more in the foreground with steeping, or just better(less perfumy and such?)

I have done some testing with some pure TPA flavors in no-nic liquid.
Steeped them in hot water from the kettle and let the water cool down, but there was hardly any taste. I increased and increased until 20%, so I assume the samples I made is drain-material.

Is the flavor after a quick steep totaly unreliable, or can one get a general idea from it?

What do people do to test out a new, pure flavor?
Do you make many batches of the same flavor and revisit a week or two later, or do you make one or two batch that are later adjusted?

I gave up on tpa flavors pretty early on. There were a few that were good, but my taste buds tasted chemical/perfume in most, and it only got stronger with steeping. I know many make great stuff with these, but imo it takes a lot of time, skill and work to get these right, and there are a lot of other companies flavors that you can pretty much mix and vape...with an occasional overnight steep. I had some really bad experiences with tpa double chocolate dark (and coffee clear but I don't even want to think about that one!) and cannot vape chocolate, of any sort to this day....seriously.

Go light, because they WILL get stronger with steeping, and if you find yourself getting discouraged and not getting anything vapable, put down the tpa, at least for awhile and give Capellas or FlavorArt a try. It'll make you feel a whoooole lot better about life in general ;)
