Do E-Cigs make you look old and ugly just like analogs would?

If you were to take two identical twins where one smoked their entire lives and one didn't i actually do think the one who smoked (not vaped) would look a little more worn .

The biggest culprit by far regarding premature aging is baking in the sun all day when your young to acquire a tan lol.

The people who have made this a habit in their youth always look a decade older then they really are when they get older

It has always been mind boggling to me why so many don't understand this , want to look young as long as possible , stay out of the sun if at all possible , it will always catch up to you.

I am 83 years old and have smoked cigarettes for the last 60 years, and now have been vaping for an additional 2 years.

For an 83 year old man, I think my face still looks pretty young, but my body is falling apart!

I seen some horrible pictures of people who smoke. They often look 30 or more years older than a healthy non smoker the same age. Is it only from nicotine or is it the rest of those toxic chemicals that cigarettes have giving such a disgusting appearance?
Yes. You're doomed to ugliness man quit while you can and give vaping gear to me! :spam:

No! Age did it to me. My Dad got old and ugly and we put him in a nursing home. He never smoked or vaped a day in his life. LOL

Most of this stuff is genetic. I have a neighbor who is 87 and doesn't look a day over 48. I met the rest of the family and they are all like that.

Thickness of skin, collagen, pores, underlying bone structure that supports face, as well as sun damage, etc. all play a partt.

Any time you are pursing your lips, repeatedly, to "puff" on something, you're going to end up with some side effects in terms of those fine lined skin wrinkles in the area. (similar to a smoker). No way around that.

There is also a dehydration effect so you have to also stay well-hydrated to make up for that.

I know that's true, but... my aunt is 83. She was literally a "sun worshipper" for about 30 yrs, until she got her first skin cancer. But she's 83... and looks like my younger sister. I'm 54, and look older, mostly thanks to smoking for 39 yrs and hard drinking for about 10. Her sister, my mom, is 74, and looks it, thanks to drinking and smoking, obesity, diabetes, cirrhosis.

The one difference... my aunt never married, never had children. So she never got to enjoy (!) marital disharmony, worry over what offspring were up to... and got to spend all the money she made on herself; her clothes, her makeup, her appearance. She's never had a serious weight problem, never smoked or been a drinker, and is only borderline-diabetic, which she manages with her diet. She's 83, and looks like a healthy 50.

I disagree. I never see smoking as aging promoter. I did not observe anything like this.
For sure, among people prone to heavy drinking, drugs, fast food smoking is much more common. And for them, sure, aging works faster. But for mere smokers? No way.

okay, let's segway into one of my favorite topics. Aging gracefully.

Some of these women (and men) in hollywood, they keep their hair dyed, etc. but look like they are going out for halloween.

Compare people like Jane Goodall or Vanessa Redgrave or Helen Miren, who chose to age naturally and gracefully: they still look like normal people, just older. their eyes don't look like they have been propped up permanently with toothpicks, etc.

^^ I love Jane Goodall's face...you can see the wonderment and her natural curiosity in her face.

^^^^ Vanessa.....pure class!

To these, who don't really even look normal anymore (Faye dunaway, Faye! Faye! Faye! your ears almost are touching each other and sewn together at the back of your head (too much plastic surgery) along with the over-done teeth veneers, Melanie Griffith who has clearly gone overboard with the trout-pout and looks like there isn't any skin left on her face to stretch n' stitch, or courtney cox (halloweeen mask anyone?)

and:
Courteney Cox is unrecognizable with puffy cheeks

These women would look gorgeous if they had just let nature take it's course---it's tragic.

Wow. 83 and she looks 50 , that is amazing for sure. I just turned 50 in Sep and look 83 but i live by Murphys law.

One thing you brought up that i forgot about is "stress" , that also has been proven to be a major contributor to not only mental health but physical as well .

I always thought Melanie Griffith looked bovine, and she always had blubbery lips. Faye and Courtney... just sad. Especially Courtney, since she's not even very old. And I know she's probably competing with Jennifer Anniston, but... ever notice that Anniston looks like a boy wearing makeup??? Faye Dunaway is probably as old as Helen Mirren, and isn't half as attractive; she looks like the female version of the Joker.

I'm just glad that she and I are nearly identical in height and build, because she has outstanding taste in clothes, a nearly unlimited budget for them, and gets bored with them quickly. :D Of course, I desperately need to overhaul my closet and fix up a huge Goodwill box, before my aunt's next contributions. :D I always resembled her a great deal more than I resemble my mother -- my mom takes after her mother excessively, and though I see my grandmother's face in my own with every passing year, my aunt and I both take after her father, my grandfather, in our tall lean builds and coloring (red-auburn but with medium complexion that tans), a lot more than my very-dark grandmother. Though come to think of it, maybe we both tan so well thanks to that dark heritage. I always figured that skin like ours that tans so well and so easily was more or less immune to skin cancer, but she really pushed the envelope, and suffered the consequences -- but as soon as I heard that she'd had some skin cancers removed, *I* stopped lolling in the sun, while still in my 20s. Unfortunately I do enjoy gardening, so my forearms somewhat resemble "fine Corinthian leather". :D

Personally, I fear the sun. I bake quickly so pretty much my entire life I have avoided any extended periods in the outdoors. And if I do go outside I plaster on the sun screen! My skin is silky smooth from head to toe. My beard, however, is in DIRE need of a trim. Right now I look like a cave man. I was never very good at keeping it "shaped" to my face. My cats never judge me, so I am ok with it. :)

@Racehorse The second picture has amazing beauty and wonderment. Beautiful.
The fourth picture? I have no idea who this woman is, but she is an amazing beauty. Her age and grace are defying, and I am sure deceiving. Who is that? She is an amazingly gorgeous woman!

Back onto age. I would think that sun does more physical skin damage than smoking. That dry leathery, "been at the tan booth" look is purely
disgusting. I find very, VERY little beauty in tanned skin. All it is is damaged skin cells. I don't mean to say I dislike dark skin, *natural* dark skin is beautiful, but tanned skin turned dark is disgusting as all get out! Pure "white" is beautiful" and pure "brown" is beautiful. Having said that, most hispanics I know are either medium brown to super dark brown, but their skin doesn't seem to get leathery. Nice genes my friends, nice genes!

I am very grateful for some of the GREAT new technical clothing that is available now, in SPF 50, some less, because even in hot climate or at beach, there are now fabrics that cover you but are very breathable and wicking. I wore a few long sleeved versions this summer in 90 degrees and was quite comfortable. (I don't like to get a LOT of sun on my skin for long periods of time at the hottest part of the day).

Coolibar makes some nice ones.

Yes and no. Unless you are among the 1/10th of 1% of the population that is actually attractive, chances are you (not "you" you, the generic everyone you) are already getting uglier and you are going to get old as a course of nature.

I used to look like this

Yes. I love that photo of Jane Goodall, world's foremost expert on chimpanzees. I wrote to her once, and she wrote back. :) (this is back in the day before internet, you actually wrote letters to people. )

The fourth picture? I have no idea who this woman is

Helen Mirren.
