A hug would be nice. But I would not be here if I didn't think vaping had some advantages. It is just that part of my job is the collection and analysis of data. And by the way I never smoked so do not have much to offer on this subject. But I do hope it helps. I would like to see more people quit smoking. Especially my wife.

You never smoked? Do you vape then or are you on here to try to help your wife?

I think nicotine gets a little too much of the blame... Part of the addiction (at least for me) included the habit/actions involved with smoking. I loved having an excuse to step aside for a moment and take a breather. Going from stepping outside and smoking every few hours or so to never was really difficult, and I imagine that's why patch/gum/nicotine alternatives like that largely don't work. Keeping a similar habit (albeit, much much safer) helped me tremendously when I decided to quit. Helped more than anything else I could have imagined!

Okay, curiosity is killing me, you gotta splain this one lmao.

Well, if it was anything like my experience, it was practically accidental.

One day, I was buying my usual carton of cigs. Saw a Blu disposable and had been hearing about e-cigs and seen the commercials and asked them to toss one in. Just wanted to see what the fuss was about.

Don't smoke in the car so fiddle with the funny widget on the way back. First draw was awful. I inhaled deep like a cig. Coughed my head off. But the taste was nice. So I puffed at it like... cigar or pipe or something.

Get home, put carton in the cabinet, deal with other odds and ends I'd bought, went to the computer to check something, got distracted.

Forgot to smoke for the next nine hours.

FORGOT.

How do I know how long it was? When I got off the computer, went to the living room, reached automatically for the pack of cigs and lit up, in short order it hit me that the pack, lighter, and ashtray that were sitting there were the ones I mean to have taken with me to the computer. I forgot to do it.

I puffed away at the disposable, getting to like the taste of it, didn't have any "nicotine fits", and just never bothered to go get the cigs and ashtray and all.

For nine freaking hours.

Me. The up to two pack a day guy.

Tried another disposable. Discovered I could get by with maybe half a dozen cigs that day without any "withdrawal" or anything like my many, many and all failed quit attempts. Never opened the new carton. Instead, in a daze, took it back, asked if I could exchange it for the Blu kit they were selling. And said, a little strangely, "I think I may be quitting smoking".

I came to like the vapor thing better than cigs even with Blu's irritations and my smoking fell to three or four cigs a day. My one remaining pack lasted a week. I used to be lucky if a carton lasted a week. So I bought only one more pack as that one ran out.

Then went looking for info on these "e-cig" things and found ECF.

And discovered my story was not that unusual. "Accidentally" quitting was a fairly common story!

Decided that unlike every other quit attempt I'd ever tried, I would not make a big production out of it. If I just had to have a cig, I'd let myself. I put the one pack, the ashtrays, the lighters in a kitchen cabinet where I'd have to go get them deliberately and would only take a cig at a time and kept the Blu widget in the "handy" spot (like next to the computer where I spend most of my day being a home office, contract type... well, with very little work coming in, my current "joke" is I'm "self-unemployed").

Started learning around here about better and less expensive set ups. Tried another "cig-a-like" that didn't work out too well (better than the Blu which I gave away to a friend I'd suggested try vaping and last I heard, it was working great for him, he was much lighter smoker than I). Finally moved to Twists and Vision clearos and found a good half dozen liquids I can rotate (I like the variety).

And the smoking just... faded away.

As I recall, my last was April 15th (well, finishing up taxes being self-not-so-employed was a bit of a headache) I ran out about then and don't seem to care. There aren't any cigs in the house anymore and it looks like it'll stay that way. I'm still not saying "No! Never! You can't! Period!" If I really, really wanted to, I'd let myself.

I just don't want to anymore. I'm no longer sure why I ever wanted to.

I didn't "try to quit". I consciously chose to not put that kind of pressure on myself. This stuff was working without me even trying so why stress myself? Stress was always a trigger for wanting a smoke for me. So I just focused on enjoying the vaping.

And now I don't seem to have any interest in cigs left. It's just... gone.

This past Sunday, we had a minor fire incident in my neighborhood. A small former ranch next to me. Nothing all that serious. But half the street ended up in my yard because being in a drought, we're all a bit skittish about fire and everybody wanted to know what was up.

Two guys lit up right next to me. I thought, "Okay, bet I'll get the urge for cig now".

Nope. Nothing happened. I didn't even have the PV with me. I mean, it was steps away in the house. But I just didn't really care one way or the other about them smoking. Finished my conversation, went back inside (the fire dept. was getting finished up, it was minor and they had it out and done pretty quick) and went on with my vaping and laundry (you know, Sunday afternoon, yada).

I didn't intend to quit. Didn't have the slightest thought of that in my mind when I bought that first disposable. I was just curious about this new thing I'd heard about.

Still can't get my head around how fast my life changed. I smoked for 35 freaking years. Near 30 of those years, was at least a pack a day and about half that, around two a day. Within six weeks of that first disposable, it's over. Just... gone.

Like the best possible "Ooops" I've ever lived through. :)

(I just noticed I think I'm repeating myself. Oh well. I'll put it down to "senior moment" and go yell at people to get offa my yard or something. :) )

Me too. Walking, talking proof. 35 years of smoking, up to two packs a day, tried everything to quit, failed miserably every time.

Now I can't imagine ever going back. Not even sure what the attraction is. Still trying to get my head around it that it's actually, really over finally...

AMEN to that my friend, its finally over! Now if I could just get the wife to understand that :?: and quit her stinky habit lol.

In a word. . .yes. Smoked tobacco cigs more than 52 years. I knew from the first drag of an Original BLU that I could switch to ecigs. Took me awhile, (I was doing 2.5 PAD), when I started with ecigs. I was DIY my juice from the start. Got concerned I was inhaling too much Cinnamon. Left the flavor out of my next batch. 24 hours later I was vaping up a storm when I suddenly realized I'd left the NICOTINE out of that batch also. Decided who needs it. Mostly oral gratification vaping next year or so. Then, 22 days of hospital stays without my ProVari. Now, I don't do nothing. . .I'm an accidental quitter.

Cheers,

Any tips guys? Thanks!

Been vaping a short time now. After many many years my analog consumption has gone down considerably. Best thing I have done thus far was getting an EVIC. Having first class vapor, taste, and great throat hit has made a world of difference. And I didnt even geto vaping to quit. Its just better. I am still surprised daily!!! Best of luck.

Increase your nicotine level on your juice.

Noticing a trend here, so I'll throw my 2 cents in....

Smoker for almost 16.5 years (a few months before my 18th birthday) Started smoking cloves...got up to almost 1.5 packs a day of those and started coughing up blood....quit the cloves, started smoking regular smokes. Tried to quit several times, always went back. Only successful attempt was when I quit for a girl, but as soon as she was out of the picture, I lit back up. Losenges just absolutely sucked, horrible tasting and never killed anything but my appetite, gum never worked, and was even worse to pop some gum at work. And the patch; worst thing ever invented. I kept forgetting that they were on and would just bum smokes from others - which just got me hooked on a higher nic dose!

I had 2 smokes left in my pack when I decided to head down to my local vape shop. Smoked both on the way (it was a 15 mile drive ;) ) Walked in, tried some juices, got a kit loaded it up immediately and have been vaping ever since.

Never had any urges to go back; in fact, it even snapped me out of "auto-pilot" buying smokes when I got a soda or gas.

Admittedly, it's only been 10 days now, but cant even fathom going back. I have lost my smokers cough, why in hell would I want that back?

Like others have posted increase your nic levels on your juice. Not sure which equipment youre using but to me making the jump to a good variable voltage made made all the difference in the world.

It isnt talked about much here, But I believe regulated voltage (thats having a device that keeps your vape at 4.2 volts all day long for example; at 4.2 volts from the first time you fire the battery right up until it dies) is just as important if not more than VV or VW.

Been off analogs for close to 6 months, smoked 1-2 packs a day for 2 years then cut down to only one pack a day for 3 years, I loved smoking an probably would have never quit if I didn't make the switch. I have had a few analogs at parties or just hanging out with smokers but my honest opinion...is real cigs...taste and smell like ASSS!
To all the folks that smoked analogs longer than I did and made the switch, I commend you all! Enjoy the flavors, enjoy the tasty vapor, the fiddling, the messes, and all of the experience that makes vaping a great alternative to smoking cigarettes. Vape on ya'll :vapor:
