I've just ordered a z-atty clone from fasttech as my first dip into rbas
$15.99 ATTY Rebuildable Atomizer with Clear Tank (2.5mL) - 1*airhole / 1.0

I have a Zmax v3 and was wondering although not the best device for building my mesh will it work or should I definitely get a cheap mech just for building??? I don't plan to get into the sub-ohm realm any time soon (and if I want to I'll definitely get a mech)
or will I fry my APV???
any help will be appreciated!

I don't really want to get a mech now as my wife doesn't get the vape thing and hates every time I get vapemail, she wouldn't understand why I need another e-cig

A mech is really only useful for keeping the coil lit up while you poke and prod it. Most regulated batteries have built in short-circuit protection that will cut the power if there's a short in your coil. Some find this annoying, so they do all their rebuilding on a mech. Personally, I have no problems rebuilding on a spinner. The zmax should work as well. The thing I like about rebuilding using a regulated circuit is that you can use thin wires and don't have to worry about it instantly popping the coil if a short occurs. Last time I tried rebuilding on an unregulated circuit, I ended up popping two coils before I gave up on the mesh.

If the zmax is working for you, stick with it. The benefits from switching to a mech are pretty minimal, and not worth angering the wife over. :p

No, you will be fine, I just wouldn't use anything lower than 30g wire for the coil, you can do it, but it's a pain to coil the higher resistance coils. And like was said, most VV/VW devices some times have troubles with coils below 1.3 ohms. For me, I use two inches of 30g kanthal A-1, meters out between 1.4 and 1.5 ohms.
