sc0ut, if the auto usb passthru works fine on a computer usb port, or AC powered usb hub, it's fine. I think our car adapters are what doesn't have enough juice to power the passthru. I mentioned this on my 2nd order, they sent me a new car adapter, and the auto usb passthru doesn't work on the 2nd one, either (they both say 1000mah on the sticker). Not sure how you'd test the amp or volt output of a usb plug, but I'm pretty sure that's the problem. My charger does appear to work on the car adapter, just not the auto passthru.

I just tested my PT using my laptop. doesn't work. so it must be my PT that's not working. btw, my PT is the auto version, not manual, if that makes a difference.
key - i tried it on my 2009 harley ultra classic (happens to have a cigarette lighter), 2005 bmw z4, and 2000 dodge durango - didn't work on any of them. as per my earlier post above, my auto PT did NOT work with my laptop either
i'll make a comment on my next order that the car charger is suspect and the auto PT is doa.

I needed a duel adapter because of my passthru and I-pod. if My husband is with me I try to get him to use his passthru in the car too. I went to Walgreens and got a white adapter..2 slots , $7.50. Works fine with everything. Of course I never had a problem with Steve's adapter..just not enough holes!

It does look like the one linked above. It came in a little plastic bag, and the red light does turn on. yet the usb passthru (auto) I have wont work on it. I haven't tried to use it to charge anything else so can't comment on that.
Since it was a freebie, no big deal, just wondered if the one's they have on the site all do that or if they are only giving away the (older?) ones? I ordered one off of Amazon so hope that will work for the pass thru. Will update tomorrow if it does

I've noticed alot of people have commented on auto PT's not working on the car usb converter. I've never used one but perhaps someone who has both a manual PT and an automatic can experiment and let us know if the autos have a higher voltage demand.
I'd say quite a few extras as backups! Mine don't seem to last very long, and even some replacements are duds. If I didn't have a pass-thru I'd have had to go back to smoking.
