Do I take filler out to clean cartos?

I watch a video (Nilius, I think it was) on youtube showing how to boil cartos to clean them. I didn't see any filler in them when he popped the tops off.

Well, mine have filler - so what do I do?

No, the filler is a real PITA to get out. You want to clean them with the filler in.

I tried taking the filler out of a 510 cartomizer just for the heck of it. Wow now that was about a two hour job, but it was interesting to see how they are constructed.
