Hey folks,

I quit tobacco 3 weeks ago and bought an e-cig, the Halo G6 which is awesome. What I want to know is if I am smoking TOO much? I vape maybe two minitanks and two to three batteries a day. That's the easiest way for me to keep track. I am smoking 18ml nic strength. I used to smoke rollies...a little over 10 a day habit.

Everyone is telling me I'm going to get addicted because they have flavored juices...

THANKS
Pete

First of all, you're already addicted. Not to the flavors, but to the nicotine, so that ship has sailed.

Second, it sounds like you're vaping pretty much constantly? I'm not sure how much a minitank holds. I started with 18 mg juice too, because that's what was recommended to me by the clerk at the store. It was good for a start, but I dropped it down to 12 pretty quickly because I couldn't sleep. I still vape pretty much constantly, but I don't feel the effects of nicotine overdose.

Stop vaping for a while if you feel nauseous, have a headache, or get especially shaky. But as long as you feel okay, you're not vaping too much. Just as much as you have to to stave off the smoke cravings. :)

"Everyone" is a dimwit. Flavor and nicotine addiction have nothing to do with one another.

If you aren't getting nic-sick with things like light-headedness, headaches and nausea you aren't vaping too much. However, with as little as you smoked you might want to try 12 mg. juice to see if that satisfies you and use the 18 mg. first thing in the morning. You also might want to try some 6 mg. juice later in the evening if you notice any insomnia.

I cape constantly and use about 3 mil a day. My partner gets on me all the time about how much I vape. Glad to know I'm not alone in my addiction. Thanks

I agree, that "Everyone" is a nut case. Addicted because of flavor LOL. Well gee then "everyone" is addicted to some food or beverage I would bet - same thing.

Now nic addiction, well that came from smoking so you've been addicted to nic for a while.

If you aren't getting nic dizzy (light headed, headaches, nausea, etc...) and you are staying hydrated, then you're doing fine.

Okay, that is hilarious.

It's not the nicotine ya gotta watch out for, it's the cherry and vanilla! That's what gets ya!!! Next, you'll be gettin' the shakes for... ICE CREAM!!!!!!

Listen, "too much" is a very personal thing. Lot of variables. If you overdo it, you'll know. Too much nicotine causes headaches, nausea, such things. It's not pleasant. If you're not having some kind of physical distress, no, you're not doing "too much".

Best I understand the nicotine thing is those of us who get hooked on the stuff become used to having some level of nicotine circulating in our bloodstreams all the time. When it drops too low, we get cravings. Which is why heavy smokers like I was went straight for the cigarettes first thing even before the coffee.

In vaping, the absorption of the nic is primarily in the mouth and nasal passages. Which is a slower process than via the lungs with smoke (smoke in the lungs can deliver nic to the brain in quite literally seconds, within about ten generally). When people first switch, they're not used to "regulating" their nicotine with this new thing. Their habits are geared for a whole other "delivery system". I haven't been at ECF all that long but have seen new person after new person after new person worry they "vape too much".

When you smoke, you develop habits to regulate your nicotine level and you don't think about it. You just reach for the pack and lighter (or whatever... there is also chewing and dipping and hooka is it?). It becomes a kind of second nature and you don't pay that much attention.

This new thing comes along and your habits have to adjust to it and you notice it more. We humans "tune out" things we see all the time and notice new things. I can't even honestly compare my vaping to my old smoking habits because I smoked so long, I did it without being all that aware of it. It was just... habitual.

If you get too much nic, you'll have physical symptoms and should adjust your nicotine level downward (tons of options there, all the way down to zero nic if you want).

If you're not having physical signs something is wrong, don't worry about it. Three weeks? You're still settling in. Later you may need to adjust the nic level. I had to start switching to low nic in the evenings, for example, because if I vape over 9mg before bed, I'm wide awake for hours. But, for now, if your current level and amount of liquid is keeping you off smoking, great, keep going!

(Heh. Sorry, I just can't stop chuckling over the "it's the flavors" thing. So, if I pass out candy at Halloween, am I a "pusher"? :D )

Heh. If 2ml a day is "a lot", I'm in big trouble. I'm buying my plain nic by the liter these days.

Appears your Halo minitanks are around .9ml, so if you're going through 2 a day you're actually probably lower than most, seems a close average is 2-4ml a day for many here at ECF (i avg about 3ml).

LOOK WHAT I STARTED :D

You're right ther are .9ml - I just remembered I fill the tank up before it empties so I must be on the low end...

Well I am glad I am not at the high end. I personally can care less how much I vape. I know I am not but I got to convince my mom I'm ok. My mom has been on my .... to quit for years, now I started this and she says I vape too much. hahaha

I knew when it would be time to stop vaping, the shakes and headaches are a dead giveaway. I almost feel my rollies were stronger than the 18.

I was also trying to figure it out $$-wise. How often I will need to order juice...and how much money am I really saving. I smoked rollies so they were cheap. Half the price of a pack. So it does seem like I am saving money or at least breaking even.

Oh piffle then. I'm prob'bly down that much just doing this post. :D

Mine was ecstatic. She's a retired nurse. Wasn't sure I'd out live her way I was going (she's in her 70s but comes from one long lived family, my grandparents both made it to 93, grandma's dad "drank himself to death"... he died when he was 80... that's their version of "drank himself to death").

In all seriousness, nicotine is addictive but has not been shown to be that much of a health risk. It's not health food but it's not what's killing all those smokers. It's the other stuff in cigarette smoke. Even the most natural, roll your own has a lot of a dangerous stuff in the smoke (for that matter, we humans just weren't meant to breathe smoke on a regular basis, even fireplaces and wood stoves are a health risk!).

It looks to be that while nic is addictive (even highly so for many), it may be no worse for your health than caffeine. They're both--interestingly enough--natural pesticides. A natural defense by plants to kill bugs that would eat them.

In a perfect world, none of us would have started with tobacco at all. But, well, nobody's invented time travel (if they do, me and 16 year old me are having it out over the smoking thing :) ). And tobacco smoke is known to have some 50+ chemicals capable of causing cancer. None of which are nicotine. So you could point out (politely of course, she's your mom :) ) that you quit the cancer causing part. That's a good thing yeah?

I knew when it would be time to stop vaping, the shakes and headaches are a dead giveaway. I almost feel my rollies were stronger than the 18.

As you get more settled in, you can check out DIY on the liquids. I've be dabbling with it myself and am already bringing my costs waaaaaay down. Not that experienced in it yet but I can do basics easily enough. Like single flavor juices are pretty simple. It's "recipes" I'm still no good at.
