Hi and welcome to the forum :) It's really what you want out of it. Some people like myself have turned it into a hobby. i don't see myself quitting vaping. One of my friends who got into it, is using it as a means to an end. She used it to quit smoking and plans on quitting vaping at some point.

So really it depends on you and how you approach it :) Either way it is the easiest way I found to quit smoking.

One year, five months and 24 days since my last cigarette. I'm not doing it to be trendy. I'm doing it to save my life.

The price of cigs varies a lot, but you will also save a *lot* of money after a while. It won't seem like it at first, if you go crazy buying many new things every month.

Read some reviews of what appeals to you, decide on a form factor/battery type that works for you.

Samoa, in my opinion, if you are not addicted to smoking cigarettes, don't get addicted to vaping. I started vaping to quit smoking and it worked for me. No one really knows for sure that vaping is totally safe ... simply not enough research has been done yet. OTOH, I'm pretty sure it's safer than smoking. If I were you and I was going to try vaping anyway, I would do it with zero nicotine juices to avoid the possibility of becoming addicted to nicotine. Just my :2c:

I was a PAD smoker for 20 years (13 to 33) and quit 3 mos ago by vaping. Tried EVERYTHING else. So, yes, it was a way to quit smoking. But I have no plans to quit vaping. I love it, for one, and two, I don't think that it would have worked in my twisted addicted mind if I had approached it as temporary. So yes, it is a new addiction. So, the answer to your question is yes. :). I will tell you that three months ago, a flight of stairs got me winded and now I can run three flights without getting winded. So I don't really care whether research says it is healthier- I feel healthier. Also, I was afraid to quit smoking because I didn't want to gain weight (I know, I know) and with vaping I haven't gained a pound. I think I have actually lost a little because I can do this in my house and I didn't smoke inside. Win- win- win- win. :)

This. :thumb:

Vaping was the only way I was able to quit smoking. Over 30+ years of smoking I had tried the nicotine gum, patches, Welbutrin, even hypnosis. Nothing came close to me not wanting a cigarette most of the time.

Within one week of vaping, I was totally off of cigarettes and have not wanted one since. It has also become a hobby to me, but I rationalize that the new hobby assists in my never wanting another cigarette, and allows me to assist others interested in quitting cigarettes, no matter what their long term goals might be. I haven't had or wanted a cigarette in seven months.

Vaping has a couple of advantages over the other nicotine substitutes (gum and patches). Vaping maintains the hand-to-mouth behavior that is so engrained into our minds and personalities. It also allows us to inhale a warm vapor into our mouth, throat, and lungs that nearly simulates what cigarette smoking did. These things are as important to me as the nicotine maintanance.

If your goal is to use vaping as a means to quit smoking, and then to quit vaping, there are successful stories of this. Juices are available from 0mg to 36mg nicotine strength. Wean yourself down to no nicotine and quit altogether if that is your goal.

Aside from those factors, vaping is nothing like smoking. The vapor is nowhere as harsh as cigarette smoke is and doesn't stink as bad as cigarette smoke. The juices used in vaping taste nothing like burned tobacco flavor -- nothing can simulate that accurately.

But with the right motivation and mindset, vaping can get you off of cigarettes. Hundreds of people here will testify to that.

Kinda same story as above. I have sever COPD. I'm not even suppose to vape. Last Doctors visit we talked. I showed him the juice bottles with the labels still on. I was told that after two years that he has been seeing me and all the ambulance rides to the ER, that after just 1 month of vaping my lungs have never sounded as clear as they did. B/P was almost back to normal. And I can walk without having to sit down. Been smoking for over 45 years and still put something in my mouth and set fire to it. I went from 50-60 a day down to 5-10 a day. It's a life change for me. And I got expensive wants. Just wish I had the money to want it all and get it. Make it what ever you want it to be. Stop setting fire to something that is in your mouth. Welcome to ECF and I will answer any question I can. If I can't the others on this fantastic forum will. I've not been vaping very long but I will be the first to say. "I sure enjoy not having to do those darn breathing treatments anymore" I use to have to use a nebulizer 2-3 times a day. In the time I've been vaping I've used about 4-5 of them the whole time and the air quality was terrible those days. Enjoy your new decission.

It's my new addiction, I was a PAD smoker and now I enjoy vaping WAY more than I ever did smoking. Everything about it is enjoyable, the flavors the PV's the accessories and the mods. Always something to be researching or ordering or taking about. So I'd have to say probably more "addictive", but in a healthier way, if that makes sense.

Ok, is vaping a new addiction to start or a way to exit smoking?

There is a flaw in your question. It's a bit digital, all or nothing. I find that because of my neural condition nicotine is medicine. I've done all the research to satisfy myself that this is a much better delivery system than smoking. I utilize it sparingly, much like any chemical that you ingest for a purpose.

I'd have to point out that nicotine by itself is much different than nicotine with all the other chemicals that boost it's effects in a cigarette. I like the affect of nicotine. It helps me to focus, much like the programmers who sit in front of their computers and hack code day in and out. I think that if people could see it as similar to caffeine It would be viewed differently. Currently coffee is fine, Starbucks on every corner. Caffeine doesn't work for me, nicotine does.

If you can quit altogether, then do so. However, if you actually enjoyed smoking, you'll probably find just as much enjoyment without most of the risk via vaping. I was an expert at quitting smoking. Did it every night. However, I was just as expert at starting again the next day. I haven't had a tobacco cigarette in almost two years and do not miss them at all at this point.

Samoa - You never stated if you were a smoker. If your not a smoker, I would recommend staying away from these products. These products are a gateway for smokers to break a tobacco addiction, and they work very well. On the other hand, if you are a smoker I would highly recommend e-cigs for the above reason Nicotine is a big addiction to break! I'll probably be vaping the rest of my life. Having said that, there are many people here who have used e-cigs as an effective tool in weaning themselfs off nicotine. Getting off the nicotine all comes down to you. I don't puff on my e-cig because I think I look cool, I do it because it's a healthy choice than cigarettes. I have let other smokers take a puff off my e-cig but never a non smoker.
